Greyhound racing is returning to Friday nights at the Richmond Race Club.

Starting this week, the western Sydney club will stage weekly Friday night meetings with all races to be televised on Sky Racing 1.

Richmond Race Club general manager Brad Adam said the switch should have a number of benefits.

“Previously, participants have had to choose between racing here or at Wentworth Park on a Saturday night, but now they can do both,” Adam said.

“The feedback we’ve received from participants has largely been  supportive of this move and it should be beneficial for them, the local community and out club.

“It will be fantastic for us to be the stand alone NSW club hosting racing on a Friday night. Richmond was synonymous with Friday night racing and we are looking forward to building on that.”

This Friday’s meeting will kick off with a bang with heats of Richmond Riches Series (400m), which offers $7,000 for the winner.

It is an exciting time for the Richmond club, which will also continue to host its regular Wednesday afternoon meetings.

This Friday’s meeting will also be the first to feature racing with a new lure hoop arm design.

Extending further from the rail, the system aims to help reduce interference between greyhounds in races and further improve the animals’ welfare and safety during races.

“It has been a challenging time for the industry for the industry over the last year, but we have a lot of plans in the pipeline and we’re excited about the future,” Adam said.

“We look forward to working with Greyhound Racing NSW for the betterment of greyhound racing.”

Richmond’s switch to Friday nights means Bulli will move to the Saturday night timeslot.
