Armfield Duo At Logger Heads

By Stuart Turner

Casino trainer Darryl Armfield has tipped Logger County to pip kennelmate Logger Albert in the Ladbrokes 1-3 Wins Final (race seven, 407m) at tonight’s Grafton meeting.

Armfield’s greyhounds are enjoying a rich vein of form with Logger Albert notching up three straight wins and Logger County registering two in a row, with all the victories occurring at the Grafton track.

There looks little between them in tonight’s race, with Logger Albert (box six) having a best of 23.15 at the track and Logger County (box seven) clocking 23.17 while winning from box four last week.

Logger Albert is a strong beginner and is capable of breaking 23 seconds,” Armfield said.

“If he does that, Logger County would find it tough to catch him. Having said that, I think with Logger Albert in the six and Dash Doll in box eight will give Logger County the clear run that he needs to get in this race. From there I feel he may just be strong enough to win.

“I’m usually one for the outsider – I pull for the underdog – and I do feel that with the draw Logger County can win.”

“I think Logger Albert is better suited to the 450, while County is more of a 500 metre greyhound,” Armfield said.

“They are both decent prospects but I feel County has the edge in this.”

The Ladbrokes 1-3 Wins Final is the highlight on a good card of racing at Grafton with many greyhounds looking to get their eye in prior to the start of next week’s Grafton Winter Carnival.

In other Grafton action this evening, Opal Valley (box four) looks the night’s best bet in the 5th grade Clarence Valley Sheds Stakes (race one, 305m).

The promising greyhound has won five from seven starts so far, including a 17.23 victory over this trip two starts back.

De Blue Kahn (box one) looks ideally drawn to return to winning ways in the 5th grade Carters Canine Capers Stakes (race three, 480m)

The Stephen Attwater-trained greyhound finished third last week over this trip after a run of nine straight victories.

Kyogle Clodhoppa looks capable of taking out the Phil McLennan Earthmoving Stakes (race six, 407m).

The Allan Lang-trained greyhound (box one) has won four of his last five attempts over this distance, including a sound 22.92 win two starts back.
