My Boy Brodie Primed To Strike Gold Again

By Stuart Turner

My Boy Brodie returns to Albion Park this Thursday night for his first race start since taking out the Group 1 Gold Cup at the Brisbane track.

The Trevor Rice-trained greyhound ($4.20 with Sportsbet) competes in the Superstayers Invitational (race seven) over the same 710m distance in which he covered to win the Gold Cup in early June.

That super Gold Cup win extended My Boy Brodie's overall career record to 14 wins and 22 minor placings from 57 starts, and ensured he remained undefeated over the long distance at Albion Park.

My Boy Brodie starts the four-strong race as the form contender, having won his last five starts and both his previous visits to Albion Park.

Speaking in the lead-up to Thursday night’s race, My Boy Brodie’s handler Jordan Rice is in confident mood.

"He has good track sense and I think he is a bit better suited to the smaller field," Rice said.

"He trialled well (prior to the Gold Cup) so he's done well up there. I don't think we've seen the best of him yet and whether that will be good enough in a race like this, I don't know, but I'm sure he can go well.

"They are all smart greyhounds and he has to do everything, but on current form he has a good chance.

"He's ready to go and hopefully he makes the long trip up there worthwhile."

My Boy Brodie looks the standout in a very even race, with all five invitees having claims.

Local hopeful Cyndie's Magic (box one, $2.70F with Sportsbet) has won four of her last five starts but was beaten into second place by My Boy Brodie - albeit only by three-quarters of a length - in the Gold Cup.

Ring the Bell (box three, $4.60) placed at Albion Park two starts back will need a big improvement after finishing seventh in the Gold Cup, while Luna Jinx (box five, $2.70) is always a threat but has mixed form recently.

In other Albion Park Thursday action, exciting duo Thirty Talks and Time For Abby look the top picks in races two and four respectively.

Recent Richmond Riches winner Thirty Talks (box two) finished fifth on his last start but had won six in a row prior to that and has won all three of his previous starts with the checks.

He ran a sizzling 29.66 over the 520m distance two starts back and although he can be tardy early, he should be too good for these.

Time For Abby (box six) has won 15 of her 21 starts and five of her last six races, all over this 395m distance.

She triumphed on her last start over this distance in a pacey 22.48 and won her only previous start from box six.

Local star Fabulous Bill (box two) can win a top-quality race eight over the 520m that features gun Victorian Blazin' Bomber, who has his first look at Albion Park from box eight.

Fabulous Bill has won four of his last five starts, including a storming 29.91 success two starts back, and has won three of his six previous starts wearing the checks.

Flying Circus was a sound 30.18 winner from box eight at Albion Park last week and can repeat that feat from box one this Time around in race nine.

A member of the gun Peter Ruetschi kennel and winner of three of his last seven starts, he has never previously jumped from box one in 30 starts and should relish the inside draw.
