De Blue Kahn Can Strike Gold At Grafton

By Stuart Turner

De Blue Kahn will step up in distance at Grafton tonight as the greyhound aims for an amazing 10th straight victory.

The Stephen Attwater-trained greyhound will jump from box eight in the 5th grade Clocktower Hotel Stakes (race eight, 480m) in what will be his first race start beyond 407m.

Of De Blue Kahn’s past nine wins, four have come over the 407m at Grafton, but Attwater is not worried about the rise in distance.

"This is a big step up in distance from what he's been running recently but I don't envisage any problems,” he said.

"He doesn't have the best of starts, but he does his best work later on in the race and has a decent mid-race turn of speed as well. I'm fairly confident he can win again.

"He only squeaked home on his last start (at Wauchope) but there were some handy greyhounds in that field," Attwater said.

“The week before at Wauchope it was pouring down as well, which made it tough.

"I've never had a greyhound have a run like this before. It's been an exciting few months, that's for sure, but I try not to get too excited.

"I know this run going to come to an end sooner rather than later so I'm just enjoying it while it lasts."

In other racing action at Grafton on Monday, Stratheden trainer Allan Lang looks capable of scoring a double with Kyogle Clodhoppa in the night’s free-for-all (race seven, 407m) and Negative Buzz in a 5th grade event (race 10, 407m).

Kyogle Clodhoppa (box two) defeated a quality field at Grafton last week over this distance with a smart 22.92 run from box three.

Negative Buzz (box two), a promising son of multiple Group winner Paw Licking, has mixed form so far in his young career but should take benefit from his fourth placed run at Grafton last week.

Cigar Sam has been running impressively in Queensland recently and looks the clear top pick in the 4/5th grade distance event (race three, 610m).

The Craig Schmidt-trained greyhound recorded a smart 35.22 victory over the 600m at Albion Park last month and has won three of his last five starts.
