Wilcox Has A Sweet Chance At Bulli

By Stuart Turner

Sweetwater Boy looks a good chance to kick off what could be a big weekend for owner-trainer Mark Wilcox at Bulli this evening.

Wilcox’s greyhound jumps from box two in a high-quality first heat of the Ladbrokes Bet Better Sprint Series (race six, 472m).

It will be the first start for Sweetwater Boy in almost a month when he scored a 24.95 win over the 440m at Goulburn.

“He’s had a few problems but he is ready to roll tonight,” Wilcox said.

“On his last start there he was coming back from  a spell, got caught at the first turn and split the webbing in his feet. He’s back to full fitness now, though.

“He will have to get round Rockstar Max in box one but he can do that. Bulli is his favourite track and this is his ideal distance as well. He looks backs to his best so hopefully he can get a win.”

Sweetwater Boy has scored four wins and five minor placings in 13 previous visits to Bulli, including a 26.17 win back in January.

He is one of the kennel stars for Wilcox, who has Knocka’s Return jumping in tomorrow night’s final of the $20,000-to-the-winner Stayers Challenge at Wentworth Park.

In other action, the Bulli Tuesday-Thursday Trials Stakes (race four, 590m) looks a cracking shootout between in-form Trending (box one) and this year’s Group 3 Nowra Summer Puppy Classic winner Megsie Marble in box three.

Megsie Marble opened her career with four consecutive victories but has gone winless in five subsequent starts, although she placed over the 520m at Dapto and Wentworth Park.

This is her first go over 590m and she will have to overcome Trending, who has been in hot recent form for trainer Ken Burnett.

Trending has won two of her last four starts, including a storming 33.62 victory over this trip at Bulli last week.

Fastest heat winner World’s On Fire looks ideally drawn to take out tonight’s Ladbrokes Goulburn-Bulli Final (472m, race five) at the NSW South Coast track.

World’s On Fire jumps from box seven having scored a smart 25.18 victory in last week’s heats, which extended his recent strong form to three wins and two placings from his last seven starts.

This is only his fourth visit  at Bulli but he is in his favourite box, having previously scored two wins and two minor placings from five previous starts wearing the black rug.

In other Bulli Friday action, Haich Two Mo (box five) can score another win for the hot Trevor Rice kennel in race three.

The son of Lochinvar Marlow and Rose Of Weather scored his 24th victory in his 57th start last week from the same box over the 400m trip in a smart 22.40.

Bella Can Do (box four)  looks a strong chance to secure a hat-trick of victories in the second of three  Ladbrokes Bet Better Sprint Series heats  (472m, race seven).

The Mary Spiteri-trained greyhound has won her last two starts – both at Bulli – and triumphed from the same box last week in an improving 22.57.
