The Peter Spiteri-trained greyhound will jump from box six in the feature event having qualified with a smart 29.91 triumph in his heat at Dapto last week and his trainer believes his greyhound can capture the $4000 top prize this week.

“I was delighted with how he ran last week,” Spiteri said.

“His second sectional last week was sensational – he was absolutely flying – and he ran how he was capable of doing. Box six isn’t a concern as he’s handy from there. Most of the litter like to use a bit of the track so have good records from the middle boxes.

“You can’t be over-confident but I’m optimistic he can win.”

Let it Develop has enjoyed a great career, having scored 24 wins and 36 minor placings from 86 starts, including eight victories at Wentworth Park.

His career highlight was taking out last year’s Goulburn Cup when he was still under the care of Anthony Azzopardi.

Spiteri took over the training role of Let It Develop when Azzopardi relocated to Victoria and had to oversee the greyhound’s recovery from a back muscle injury sustained earlier this year.

Anthony didn’t think he would come back, “ Spiteri said. “It took a lot of perseverance with him, so it’s wonderful to see him still racing.

“He’s such a placid greyhound as well. My nine-year-old  grand-daughter can go into his kennel and he’ll just lie there with his head in her lap.”

In other Dapto Thursday action, Where’s Pip (box eight) looks the standout pick in race five – the 4/5th grade Koonawarra Meats Stakes (520m).

Anthony Hokin’s consistent greyhound has placed on her last three starts and won at her last visit to Dapto last month in a strong 29.87.

Justifia (box four) and Six Sense (box two) can complete the quaddie with wins in races seven and eight respectively.

The CHRIS O’Brien trained-Justifia has won two of her four previous visits to Dapto, including a smart 29.96 win over the 520m in March and will tackle that distance again on Thursday.
