Camden Gossip All The Talk For Wentworth Park

By Jeff Collerson

Camden Gossip is primed and ready to win Wednesday night's ladbrokes.com.au Stakes (520m) at Wentworth Park despite not having raced for six weeks.

The daughter of College Causeway and Camden Blue has box two in the 5th grade event and trainer Doug Rogers says she is going extremely well.

"When she won at Nowra on Apr 11 I was disappointed with her time and then she put in a couple of ordinary runs at Nowra and Wentworth Park,'' Rogers said.

"All this was out of character for her so I suspected something was amiss. Then it was diagnosed that somewhere along the line she sustained a small crack in the fibula.

"I gave her a few weeks off and she has come back as good as ever.

"She trialled well over 365m at Nowra and last week recorded smart time in a 400m trial at Richmond.

"The only thing that might beat her this week is lack of race fitness but I am pretty confident. Box two is very suitable because she has a great record from inside draws.

"Camden Gossip has won three of four starts from box one and two from three out of box three while she has had box two just once previously.''

A slick 515m trial at Unibet Gardens on Friday night points to Our Sapphire being ready to open her Wentworth Park account in heat two of the 720m AAA Radiator Specialists Distance Series.

Trained by Maureen West at Beechwood, near Wauchope, Our Sapphire has been placed in two of her four Wentworth Park 720m starts.

"I took Our Sapphire to The Gardens on Friday and she has never trialled better than she did there," West's husband Barry said.

"I put her over 515m and Our Sapphire clocked 30.06, the fastest she has recorded at that track. while her run home time was the quickest of the night.

"She is nice and fresh so should run a bold race, especially from box one, and while she has only been placed twice in four 720m starts at Wentworth Park, she will run out the distance powerfully.''

Londonderry trainer Christine Proctor has a great chance of landing the quinella in race six, a 520m fifth grade, with Zipping Jet (box two) and Without Site (box five).

But Proctor and husband Alan differ on which greyhound has the better prospect of winning.

"I prefer Without Site because she has been racing without luck but is going really well,'' Christine said. "She missed the jump when fifth at her last start at Wentworth Park but her run was good.

"Zipping Jet is a bit unpredictable and can be slowly away.''

Alan Proctor though leans to Zipping Jet.

"He is usually a slow beginner but he is going well and box two is a good draw for him,'' Alan said. "He had box five when fifth at his most recent start at Wentworth Park and he got to the line strongly.

"Having said that Without Site is capable of running decent time if she ever jumped in front and got on the lure.''

While Without Site's best Wentworth Park time to date has been 30.34, Zipping Jet, with a personal best time of 29.90, is the only greyhound in the race to have got under the 30 second barrier at headquarters.
