Ima Wagtail Looking Sharp For Cannington

By Stuart Turner

Ima Wagtail looks capable of continuing his strong recent form with another victory at Saturday night’s Cannington meeting.

The recent Group 1 Sky Racing Perth Cup winner jumps from box seven in a high-quality Greyhounds WA Sandy’s Me Mum  Memorial Final (race five, 520m) aiming for a seventh victory in his last 10 starts.

Ima Wagtail has been in terrific form since transferring to John Iwanyk’s Nambeelup kennel earlier this year, scoring his latest victory from box eight in last week’s heats in a sound 30.06.

The son of Oaks Road and Aella has scored two placings in six previous starts from box seven, including a placing at Cannington in April.

His biggest danger looks like Monaro Monelli (box four), who was a 30.27 winner in the heats and is also in strong form.

The David Hobby-trained greyhound scored a sizzling 29.87 win at Cannington two starts back and placed in his only previous start from box four.

Wagtail Kate (box five) and Yunderup Dozer (box six) are also both racing well but on current form Ima Wagtail looks the top pick to secure the $15,000 top prize.

In other Cannington Saturday action, Who’s Got Blue (box three) is shaping as the night’s best bet in the NPB Security Stakes (race seven, 520m).

A member of the strong CHRIS Halse kennel, he placed on his first 520m start at Cannington last week and looks capable of improving further in this.

Former top Victorian Gorham Bale (box one) is approaching 100 starts but still racing solidly and can win a quality race three.

A winner four starts back in a sound 30.48, Gorham Bale placed on his last start from the rails draw at Cannington in April and can lead these home.

West On Dossy (box five) has scored two smart placings over the 647m in recent weeks and should drop back successfully to 600m in race eight.

The CHRIS Halse-trained greyhound has won two of his previous three starts over the 600m at Cannington and is a solid performer from box five, with two wins and four minor placings in nine previous starts wearing the yellow rug.

Downlight (box eight) is one of WA’s current form performers and looks the clear top pick in race 11 over the 380m.

The John Carmody-trained greyhound has won six of his last eight starts and has triumphed on six of his 10 previous starts wearing the pink rug.
