Hair Testing Commencing From 1 July 2016

By GRNSW

On 1 January 2016, Greyhounds Australasia added Anabolic Androgenic Steroids to the list of Permanently Banned Prohibited Substances within Greyhounds Australasia Rule (Gar) 79A(2)(xx).

Greyhound Racing NSW has enforced this rule through kennel inspections and race day and out of competition urine and blood sampling.

As announced on 18 December 2015, from 1 July 2016 hair testing may also be used to test for anabolic androgenic steroid administration such as 1-testosterone.

Participants are reminded that under Gar86(h)(ii):

“Removing, or allowing to be removed, hair from a majority of the greyhound, or any part of the tail of the greyhound, and preventing the collection of a sample shall be a breach of this Rule unless that person has obtained the permission of Stewards.”

A person who breaches any of the rules is guilty of an offence and may be liable for a penalty in accordance with the provisions of Gar95.

At the expense of the participant, elective testing for androgenic anabolic steroids may be allowed by arrangement with the Stewards on transfer of a greyhound to a new trainer within 10 days of such transfer being affected.
