Mitcharlie Mia Cooking With Gas For Beef Week Cup

By Jess Moran

Mitch Northfield is extremely confident that Mitcharlie Mia will complete her successful homecoming in this afternoon's Beef Week Cup Final (484m) at Casino.

The Group winning greyhound resumed from a break last week to win her heat in outstanding fashion, posting a 8 3/4 length victory in a personal best time of 27.33.

Northfield was very happy with Mitcharlie Mia's run but admittedly not surprised.

"It was really nice to see her back on the winners list and performing well," he said.

"She always likes racing up here and I was expecting her to come out and show her class, which she did.

"I think there were a few people on track who would have liked her to not be in the series, but overall everyone was really positive and happy to see her back racing up here."

Mitcharlie Mia (pictured) will most likely start a short-priced favourite in today's final despite drawing awkwardly in box four.

"As long as she begins well like she did last week, I don't think she'll have any issues," Northfield said.

"If she gets out in front, they won't chase her down."

Northfield also has Dramatic Mel (box eight) in the cup final, and while he is full of praise for the greyhound he does not believe she can match it with Mitcharlie Mia

"She is a good, consistent country chaser with 14 wins now.

"I think she is actually really well boxed out wide but just isn't quick enough to be up there with the others at the finish."

Among the other challengers who will be looking to cause a big upset is Palazzo (box two) who ran a very quick time of 27.66 in her heat win last week.

Consistent country performer Laverne will also be looking to make amends after running second to Mitcharlie Mia last week, and from box three she gets every chance.

After a long campaign in the city which saw her win the Group 2 Richmond Oaks and make the finals of the Group 1 Golden Easter Egg and Group 3 Ladies Bracelet, Northfield is content to have Mitcharlie Mia back home for the time-being.

"I'm getting a bit sick of all the travelling so I think I'll just keep her up here for a while if we can find some races. I don't have any solid plans for her at the moment," he said.

The Casino R.S.M Beef Week Final is race eight on the card and jumps at 6:14pm AEST.
