Boy What A Stayer

By Jeff Collerson

Sydney's most improved stayer My Boy Brodie is boxed to land his third successive Wentworth Park staying race tonight.

The Trevor Rice-trained son of 2011 Golden Easter Egg winner Radley Bale has box one in the 4/5th grade wentworthpark.com.au Stakes (720m).

My Boy Brodie posted his personal best Wentworth Park  Time for the 720m of 42.24 when he won from box four on May 4 before coming from last at the first turn to win in 42.44 after exiting box eight  last Saturday night.

The dog's owner Shaun Dooley said despite the win from the wide alley last weekend, he would rather see him on the rails.

"He loves box one," he said.

"My Boy Brodie has really good track sense, he handles himself well in a field and doesn't get checked too often.

"For a cheap buy he has been terrific but I have to give a lot of credit to my trainer Trevor Rice.

"Nobody is more under-rated than Trevor and I can't think of any trainer with a better strike rate.

"If My Boy Brodie goes as well as I expect him to  Trevor might even take him to Albion Park for the heats of the Group 1 Brisbane Gold Cup heats over 710m on June 2."

My Boy Brodie appeals as tonight's best bet while Brother Sox, well positioned near the fence in box three, represents value in heat one of the ladbrokes.com.au Series (520m).

Brother Sox won at his only Wentworth Park appearance on April 2 in 30.31 but trainer Darren Sultana believes the greyhound can go quicker.

"When he won last month he was having his first 520 metre test," Sultana said.

"Brother Sox is at his best when he get to the lead and is able to make the pace and if he does that on Wednesday he should run 30.20 or maybe a bit better.

"He was beaten into second place from box one at Gosford last start but I wasn't too disappointed with his run.

"After all, the winner led all the way and ran smart Time of 29.85.

"Brother Sox has been beginning well so if he jumps cleanly again and gets on the lure he should go well."

Duck's Luck makes his first Wentworth Park appearance in over two months when he contests Wednesday's fourth heat of the ladbrokes.com.au series but trainer Ray Morris said the dog is raring to go.

"When he was last nominated for Wentworth Park I had to scratch Duck's Luck due to a tear in his hip support muscle," Morris said.

"But since returning from that setback he has finished second in track record Time at Maitland on May 5 and then won there in the fastest Time of the meeting last Thursday.

Equal Ben will be chasing his fifth win in six appearances from box one when he steps out in heat five of the ladbrokes.com.au Series.

"It is a winnable race and he is perfectly drawn," trainer John Buttsworth said of Equal Ben's prospects.

"Since his win over 618m at Bathurst on May 9 Equal Ben has not been off the lead because he needs to be nice and fresh because he is coming back in distance.
