Stars To Battle It Out At Wentworth Park

By Stuart Turner

NSW stars Bessy Boo and Brad Hill Billy will go head-to-head in a mouth-watering clash at Wentworth Park on Wednesday night.

Bessy Boo jumps from box four while Brad Hill Billy will begin from box seven in the Free For All thedogs.com.au (520m, race eight), with both looking to continue their good run of form in 2016.

The CHRIStine Proctor-trained Bessy Boo, who has the most Wentworth Park wins ever by an individual greyhound with 27, comes into the race off the back of a Masters victory in 29.92 at the Sydney venue last week.

Brad Hill Billy (pictured, wearing checks), meanwhile, will make his first start since finishing third in the Dubbo Gold Cup behind winner All A Blaze.

He last started at Wentworth Park in the Golden Easter Egg final in which he finished a gallant second to Moreira and has since broken the 516m Dubbo track record.

Brad Hilly Billy looks well drawn for Wednesday’s assignment having recorded two wins from four starts from box seven.

In other action at Wentworth Park on Wednesday, In The Moonlight will be looking to continue her impressive recent form in the Ladbrokes.com.au 2-5 Wins (520m, race six) in which she will aim for a third straight victory.

The Bruce Mackie-trained greyhound jumps from box eight, the same draw she had when she won her heat last week in 30.05.

In the Moonlight will face the impressive Emett Kahn (box five) who has won his last two starts, including at 29.89 last start run at Wentworth Park, but Mackie believes his greyhound can win.

“I think Emett Kahn holds the key to the race,” he said.

“If he jumps clearly then he’ll be hard to stop. Having said that, I think mine is the best drawn out of these. I was elated when she drew box eight again.

“She came out a length-and-a-half behind them last week but came home so strongly. She’s run home at Wentworth Park in 11.60 and if she begins well then she’ll be hard to beat.”

Mackie is recovering from a recently dislocated knee and faces an arduous journey from his Hunter Valley base of Woodville.

“It hasn’t healed right so when I drive down to Wentworth Park I have to stop every 40 minutes or so to keep it moving,” Mackie said. “At the moment I hate going down to Wentworth Park.

“Having said that, she makes the prospect worthwhile.

“I’ve been involved in greyhounds for 50 years and not had greyhounds that can run her times. When she matures, she will be a danger in any race.

“I think she’s got a good chance on Wednesday night.”

Julie Fletcher, meanwhile, looks capable of scoring a double with her greyhounds Whittaker (race five, 520m) and El Magnifico (race seven, 520m).

Whittaker (box three) drops back to 520m After a solid period racing over the 720m, including a last start win at Wentworth Park on April 16.

His last run over the 520m was a placing at Wentworth Park in March in 30.34 and with two wins and two minor placings from five previous starts from box three he looks the best in this event.

El Magnifico (box six) was a scorching 29.76 winner at Wentworth Park three starts back and also won over the 472m at Bulli last Friday night.

Of the other races, Ludwig (box four) has found good form recently and looks the top pick in race two over the 520m.

The CHRIS Nutt-trained greyhound had a solid 26.46 win at Bulli last start and also placed twice at Wentworth Park last month.

He’s Some Love is making his Wentworth Park debut can continue his impressive form with victory in race nine over the 520m.

The Harry Markou-trained greyhound is in stellar form, having scored one win and two minor placings in his last three starts.

He was a runner-up at Wentworth Park on his last start behind Pippa Pepper After hitting trouble and is capable of improving in this.
