De Blue Kahn A Hot Chance At Grafton

By Stuart Turner

De Blue Kahn lines up in tonight’s feature event at Grafton aiming for a fifth consecutive victory.

The Stephen Attwater-trained greyhound jumps from box four in the 4th/5th Grade Wauchope-Grafton Final (race five, 407m), a week after setting the fastest time in the series heats.

De Blue Kahn could not have been any more impressive in his heat, cruising home by 15-and-a-quarter lengths in 21.70.

This is his first competitive start from box four but his trainer believes his greyhound can win from the tricky draw.

“That’s the big question, but I don’t see why not,” Attwater  said.

“He’s run good times at Grafton in the past and then he did the same at Wauchope last week. He has a good mid-sectional and he is usually pretty strong at the finish. He’s a good all-round greyhound.

“It’s a tougher race than last week but I would still expect him to put in a good show.”

Attwater said De Blue Kahn has continued to improve as he has gained more race experience.

“He used to play up in the boxes but now he’s maturing and settling into a decent greyhound,” Attwater, a retired former house painter based at Grafton, said.

“I’m a bit ‘old school’, I suppose in that I like to give my greyhounds an education on the non-TAB tracks while they are young. In his case, it has definitely worked.

“I only have three greyhounds at a time in my retirement. It’s really just something I do for a hobby. I enjoy working with them so much and going to races.

“It’s certainly nice to have one having a good run like he’s doing. Fingers crossed he can carry on tonight.”

In other Grafton Monday action, Black Audit (box seven) can continue her strong recent form in the Henwoods Hot Bread Shops Stakes (race eight, 610m).

The classy DAVE Irwin-trained greyhound has won consecutive races over the 620m at Casino so should not be perturbed by the trip she faces tonight.

Local contender Slender Jappa (box one) looks the top pick in the night’s other final, the Highland Petfoods 1-3 Wins (race seven, 407m).

The Sonia Kempshall-trained speedster has scored two wins from his last three starts and has been given every chance with this draw.

Jimary Magic (race three, box seven) and Miss Stosur (race 10, box one) both looks newcomers with ability and are capable of saluting in their respective races.
