Pippa Pepper Looking A Hot Chance

By Stuart Turner

Pippa Pepper looks a strong contender the Group 3 Evans and Son Jewellers Ladies Bracelet (520m) heats at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

The Wayne Boreland-trained greyhound jumps from box five in the second of four heats for the female greyhound series After her storming 29.79 win at the Sydney track last week.

Pippa Pepper may have drawn unfavourably in this classy field, but is one of the in-form contenders entering the series with three wins and three minor placings in her last six starts and Boreland believes his greyhound could improve further this week.

“It didn’t surprise me how well she did last week,” Boreland said.

“She’s a 29.50 greyhound at Dapto and she could do similar at Wentworth Park with a clear run.

“She always had that ability, but unfortunately her box manners weren’t the best. She’s improved in that area now and is coming good.

“Even with this draw I think she’s got a chance. She has trialled  24.2 post-to-post at Wentworth Park and if she jumps in front they will have a job to catch her. If she gets that good start then she can really run a fast time.”

Pippa Pepper’s sizzling 10-and-a-quarter-length victory last week followed up her smart 30.02 win over the 520m distance at Nowra four days earlier.

Pippa Pepper will have to overcome a quality field containing classy performer Fantastic Skye, who looks ideally drawn in box one and the dangerous Star Torana (box six).

The Jason Fletcher-trained Fantastic Skye won from box two at Wentworth Park two starts back in a smart 29.99 and with two wins and two placings from four previous starts wearing the red rug looks a big danger.

In the other heats, gun Queenslander Sheza Keen Size (box four) could be the one to watch in heat one.

She has been running impressively over the 520m at Albion Park recently, scoring two wins and two minor placings from her last six starts and placing in the recent Group 2 Queensland Futurity.

Sheza Keen Size has been aimed for this series and with a lack of searing early pace on her inside looks capable of winning from the tricky draw.

Formidable pair Miss Foxy Lee (box one) and last Sunday’s Dubbo Gold Cup winner All A Blaze (box two) look the top chances in the third heat.

Miss Foxy Lee scored back-to-back victories at Wentworth Park earlier this month in a sizzling 29.60 and looks ideally drawn to win this one.

New Direction has hit form in recent weeks and can win the fourth and final heat from box eight.

She has won two of her three previous starts wearing the pink rug, including a 30.10 victory at Wentworth Park last month and with consecutive placings at the Sydney track looks on top form for this race.

The top two placegetters in each heat will qualify for next week’s Group 3 Evans and Son Jewellers Ladies Bracelet final.

In other Wentworth Park Saturday action, Cardiology’s run of four consecutive wins was broken last week when she finished second to Lovelace After missing the kick, but she looks a strong chance to return to winning ways in race one over the 720m.

Kayla-Jane Coleman’s greyhound looks perfectly drawn in box one and with a clear start should have too much strength for these.

Little Bit Sweet (box one), meanwhile, looks ideally drawn to feature in her Wentworth Park debut in race 10 over the 520m.

She has run good times at Wagga, Maitland and most recently Bulli and on current form looks the best of this field.
