In The Moonlight Ready To Shine

By Stuart Turner

In The Moonlight looks set to continue her impressive recent form while star NSW duo Bessy Boo and Black Bear Lee also look strong chances at tonight’s Wentworth Park meeting.

The Bruce Mackie-trained In The Moonlight jumps from box eight in a heat of the 4th/5th grade ladbrokes.com.au event (race five, 520m) looking for another success after her 25.19 last start win over the 450m at Maitland.

In the Moonlight seems ideally drawn for another triumph tonight, having won twice and placed once at her four previous starts from box eight

She won from that box at Wentworth Park in January and Mackie believes she can salute again tonight.

“If she jumps and turns with them then box eight gives her the room she needs without interference,” he said.

“She’s a young greyhound and unfortunately she has very ordinary box manners, (but) she’s already very strong. I’ve no doubt she will run 600 metres – or maybe further – in the future.

“If she does everything right she looks tough to beat in this race.”

In the Moonlight’s last start win extended her record to five wins and three minor placings from 15 starts so far.

She has won two of her visits to Wentworth Park and looks the best in  a race lacking sizzling early pace.

“She should have won 10 of her races so far, but unfortunately she has sometimes not come out well and been run out of the race,” Mackie said.

“When I get her 100 per cent I expect her to break the 30-second mark and possibly get down to 29.60."

Craig Chappelow looks the trainer  to watch at the meeting, with his in-form greyhounds Superbly (race three), Scramble (race four) and Vintage Rox in race seven all looking decent chances.

Superbly (box three) was an impressive last start winner at Wentworth Park last week and should be able to take advantage of a lack of early pace to win race three over the 520m.

Scramble’s recent good run includes a 29.99 triumph at Wentworth Park on April 6.

After scoring back-to-back wins at the Glebe circuit earlier this month, the daughter of Where’s Pedro and Surpassing earned the hat-trick with a smart 29.83 win over the 520m at Dapto last start.

Vintage Rox (box four) was a runner-up at the Sydney track last week, four days after scoring a sound win over the 535m at Richmond.

Lochinvar Kors (box seven) looks the toughest opponent and races well from out wide, but in current form Vintage Rox can win this.

In other Wentworth Park Wednesday action, Fantastic Bear (box eight) seems the clear top pick in the night’s opening race over the 720m.

Jason Fletcher’s greyhound has won both his starts over this distance at Wentworth Park, including a win last Wednesday night, and should be too strong for these.

Bessy Boo (pictured) looks a good chance to return to winning ways when he jumps from box two in race two over the 520m.

The Christine Proctor-trained greyhound has not won since securing a record-breaking 26th Wentworth Park victory on April 6, but looks the clear standout in this field.

Black Bear Lee resumes after more than a month’s spell in the Free For All race eight over the 520m but also looks a decent winning chance.

The Ruth Matic-trained greyhound has not raced since a placing at Wentworth Park on March 26, which extended his consistent record to 17 wins and 13 minor placings from 38 starts.

Black Bear Lee faces a tough field including Zipping Bruiser (box seven) but with four wins from five starts with the pink rug looks ideally drawn.

Prancing Tiger (box seven) won from box two at Unibet Gardens on April 7 in a smart 29.47 and in that form looks the best in race six.
