Leading Trainers Look To Dominate

By Jeff Collerson

Leading trainer Jason MACKAY and sisters Lorraine Atchison, Carole Eaton and Noelene Holloway could easily land nine winners on Saturday night's 10 race card at Wentworth Park.

MACKAY has his strongest representation in years with Aston Harvey (box one, race 2), Aston Ebert (box six, race 3), Zipping Jordan (box five, race 4), Zipping Bruiser (box eight, race 6), Berzerk">Berzerk (race three, race 8) and Zipping Lilly (box 4, race 9).

Lorraine Atchison has likely favourite Cristalle Coco jumping from box 7 in the first race while her siblings Carole Eaton and Noelene Holloway will rug up Queen Audrey (box five, race 5) and Magic Spring (box six, race 7) respectively.

I asked MACKAY which of his six runners he rates his best chance and he plumped for Zipping Bruiser.

"He has such a great draw - he just loves box eight,'' MACKAY said.

"Admittedly he might be in strife if El Magnifico, who has box three, goes straight to the front like he did last start.

"Aston Harvey is a new addition to my kennels but while he has clocked good times over middle distances he is unproven over 720 metres.

"He won recently over 650m at Shepparton in only a length outside the track record but has since been unsuccessful in longer races over 715m at Sandown and 725m at The Meadows.

"I have only had a chance to trial him over 520m at Wentworth Park but at least he knows his way around the track and box one is a big plus for him.''

I am especially keen on the chances of Zipping Jordan who had no luck when a distant second to El Magnifico in the fastest time of the night at Wentworth Park last Saturday.

Zipping Jordan would have finished closer had she not been checked when third at the first turn and she meets weaker opposition this week.

Aston Ebert and Berzerk were considered good enough to come to Sydney for the recent Group 1 Golden Easter Egg series and they are down in grade on Saturday while Zipping Lilly is easily the quickest Wentworth Park winner in her race.

The Lorraine Atchison-trained Cristalle Coco was well supported when fourth to Whittaker">Whittaker over 720m  last Saturday, on the strength of a reported fast 600m trial at The Gardens.

Atchison's son-in-law Troy MacDonald confirmed Cristalle Coco's quick run at the Hunter Valley track.

"She went pretty slick there and while it was only over 600m her run home time was good,'' MacDonald said.

"Last week Cristalle Coco went to the first turn alongside Whittaker. If she had been able to slip underneath him she would have been hard to beat, but he chopped her off and that was it.''

Queen Audrey was cramped for room early and then lost all chance by veering off the track at the first turn when sixth from box two last week.

But the Carole Eaton-trained bitch had won in a brilliant 29.79 at her previous start at Gosford and is nicely positioned on Saturday night.

While Queen Audrey has box five, Aisle Tifi, box four, is a fast beginner who goes left at box rise while Old Timer in six is not a brilliant starter.

Magic Spring, a winner of 11 Wentworth Park races, looks suitably placed in his third and fourth grade event.

This year's National Derby winner won in 29.93 at Wentworth Park on March 23 but after colliding at the start he failed to beat a rival home at Wenty on April 6.

"After that latest race my veterinary surgeon found Magic Spring a bit sore in a back flank," trainer Noelene Holloway said. "He advised me to give the dog a couple of weeks off.

"Magic Spring is looking well again now and while he is nice and fresh I have only been working him along enough at home for him to run a good race on Saturday.''
