Mako Looks The One To Watch At Wentworth Park

By Jeff Collerson

The Chris Nutt and Shaun Evans training team dominate Wednesday night's April Maiden Final at Wentworth Park after winning three of the four heats with Mako">Mako, Run The Jewels and Rockstar Kaito.

The trio has drawn boxes three, four and six in the final but while on times there is little between them Nutt leans slightly to Mako as the kennel's top pick.

"There was only around .02 between them on sectional and run home times, with Mako winning in 30.21, Run The Jewels in 30.18 and Rockstar Kaito in 30.20,'' Nutt said.

"Mako has always topped the trial charts at home and as he has the inside running of our trio he might have a slight advantage.

"I think which ever dog leads around the first turn is going to be hard to beat.

"But if Run The Jewels sat right on Mako's hammer she might be able to run him down.

"Rockstar Kaito was the big improver in the heats because she had previously only trialled 30.50 at Wenty but sliced .30 off that time in her heat win.''

Saturday night's most impressive 520m winner Miss Foxy Lee returns in Wednesday night's @wpgrey On Twitter Stakes and trainer Dean Swain expects her to score again.

Miss Foxy Lee led throughout on Saturday in 29.60, which equalled the fastest times of the year posted by Zambora Brockie in January and by Marley Bale last month.

"Miss Foxy Lee pulled up perfectly after her win on Saturday night and backing up 96 hours later won't be a problem,'' Swain said.

"I'm pleased she has drawn near the fence in box two because she skimmed the inside rail as she went through the pen last Saturday night.

"I've looked at the replays of her rivals on Wednesday night and while Ludwig, who has box three, has got early pace, he usually moves slightly to the right at the start before levelling out.

"If he does that on Wednesday he should give Miss Foxy Lee enough room to move in the run to the first turn.''

Swain also has strong chances with You Got Rivered, who has box five in the Gosford To Wenty Final and with Runway Bono (box two) in the Ladies Night Out Stakes.

"You Got Rivered trialled 30.20 Wentworth Park before being unplaced there at his first race start on Saturday night," Swain said.  "I have discarded that run because another dog chopped him out at the start.

"You Got Rivered is a moderate beginner but has a good turn of pace, he really takes off after he goes about 10 metres.

"Runway Bono is a good beginner who takes a while to wind up but I believe he could be a future group race greyhound because his solo trials are simply sensational.''

Bargo trainer Marien Sullivan could land a winning double on Wednesday with Sazoo Icon in the ladbrokes.com.au Final and with Zambra Icon in the Evans & Son Jewellers Stakes.

They will each have the advantage of exiting box one and both have good early speed.

Zambra Icon made the pace before weakening to finish fifth to Dawn Mini at her Wentworth Park debut on Saturday night while Sazoo Icon chased Almost Black throughout when second in her heat on Wednesday night.

"Zambra Icon is fast early but is still learning so she should continue to improve,'' Sullivan's husband Robert said.

"Sazoo Icon is the better greyhound at this stage - she does a lot right in her races.''
