A Fantastic Night In Store At Cannington

By Stuart Turner

Gun Victorian duo Bearville Azza and Fantastic Roxy look among the top picks at Saturday’s star-studded Cannington line-up.

Bearville Azza jumps from box one in the Greyhounds WA Perth Cup Prelude (520m, race three) aiming to extend his impressive record of 17 wins and 11 minor placings from 41 starts.

The son of Lochinvar Marlow and Von’s Angel has never raced at Cannington but will start in good form, having placed in the Group 3 Ambrosoli  at Wentworth Park on his last start.

A class act from the gun kennel of Robbie Britton who has more than $100,000 prize money earnings, he has gone unplaced in two previous starts from box one but can certainly lead these.

Multiple Group winner Elfen Bale (box three) and recent Golden Easter Egg heat winner and fellow Victorian Shared Equity (box six, pictured) look the next best.

Both have been below-par on their last two outings but Shared Equity has won two of her four starts from box six and defeated a strong field in a Golden Easter Egg heat last month.

Fantastic Roxy (box one), a recent addition to all-conquering Victorian mentor Andrea Dailly’s kennels, also looks the one to watch in another of the WA Preludes (race five, 520m).

Part of a Hot litter bred by Jason Fletcher, she has won eight and placed five times on her 17 starts so far and scored a 29.86 win on her last start at The Meadows.

This is her competitive debut at Cannington but she won three times on the four occasions she has debuted at a track.

Also in the field are Group winners Weblec Belle (box two), who should be strengthened from her first look at Cannington last week and the brilliant Above All (box eight).

Hot newcomer and kennelmate Snakebite Bale who won a heat of the Golden Easter Egg last month, looks ideally drawn in box one to win race four (520m).

Snakebite Bale he is making his WA debut but has scored two wins and two minor placings from four previous starts with the red rug.

Yet another red rug hopeful, gun Victorian stayer Dublin Bull (box one), can triumph in the WA Galaxy prelude (race seven, 715m).

Jeff Britton’s greyhound was an impressive recent winner of a Group 1 Association Cup heat before disappointing in the final when heavily favoured.

This is his Cannington debut but he has won three times and placed once on six starts with the red rug, so from this draw should fend off likely nearest rival Luna Jinx (box four).
