Sugars Hoping For Perfect Pose At Nowra

By Stuart Turner

Sassy Pose may have taken 14 starts before breaking her maiden, but is now one of the leading chances to claim a stakes victory when she lines up in a heat of the Classicbet Nowra Summer Puppy Classic (520m) this afternoon.

The Wayne Sugars-trained greyhound jumps from box one in the fourth and final heat (race 7) of the Puppy Classic series, aiming for a third consecutive victory and an all important semi-final berth.

Sassy Pose went winless in her first 13 starts before scoring a maiden win over the 535m at Richmond last month in a decent 31.23.

She then scored a 30.76 victory at the same track at her last start in a 5th grade outing and Sugars thinks she can score the hat-trick today.

“She’s always been there or thereabouts  but now she seems to have clicked,” he said.

“We knew she had ability, we’ve done a bit of work with her and she’s matured well. She was not going good early but  now she looks like she will go to the fence.

“I’m sure with this draw she will run straight and then get to the fence at the first corner.

“Her mother (Sweet Pose) was handy greyhound who made the Wagga Gold Cup final and won at Wentworth Park.

“Sassy Pose has already placed over the 600 metres and I think she’ll go over that distance.

“In her current form I think she’s a decent chance for this one.”

Sassy Pose looks ideally drawn in today’s heat having registered a win and a placing in her three previous starts from box one.

In the other heats, Prancing Parker (box one) is making his Nowra debut but looks ideally drawn to take out the first heat.

He won from the same box over the 440m at Goulburn, where he raced well in his five stats so far.

Megsie Marble (box two) ran a smart 29.89 on debut at Dapto and looks the top pick in heat two.

Sew She Can (box five) enjoyed a sound 30.14 triumph at Nowra last week and is racing solidly, so looks the top pick in the third heat.

Semi-finals of the Group 3 Classicbet Nowra Summer Puppy Classic take place next Monday, with the final on Saturday, April 16.
