Heaps Of Ability Looking Big Threat At Cannington

By Stuart Turner

Heaps Of Ability continues to live up to his name and looks a strong chance in the feature race at Cannington on Saturday night.

The ultra-consistent greyhound, who has now won or placed in each of his last 28 starts stretching back to July last year, jumps from box six in the $25,000-to-the-winner Miata Final (715m, race seven).

Heaps Of Ability scored his latest placing last week, finishing half-a-length behind Jed Monelli in the heats.

Trainer Joe Dailly said his greyhound, who has scored one win and six minor placings in seven starts with the green rug, can challenge again this week.

“He likes it out wide so box six should help him,” Dailly said.  “Last week was his first 700 metres for a long time – he needed that hit-out and he did well.

“It was his first look at Cannington but he seemed to suit it fine.

“You’d certainly go a long way to find a more consistent greyhound than him. He’s in decent form and has got a good chance.”

Jed Monelli (box one) looks the biggest threat to Heaps Of Ability, having won his last two starts and having secured the prized rails draw.

Dailly may also score a win with Science, who jumps from box three in the night’s opening race (520m).

Science finished fourth in classy company at Cannington last week but is in solid form, with three wins and six minor placings from his 10 starts prior..

“Box three suits him but the track is still settling in,” Dailly said.

“He’s not a strong greyhound so I think it may take him a few runs before he shows his best at Cannington.”

In other Cannington action on Saturday night, Cobra Clutch looks a good chance from box two in the $15,000-to-the-winner Greyhounds WA Bred Championship (race five, 520m).

Cobra Clutch scored a smart 30.01 victory over the 520m last week and has won both of his two previous starts wearing the checks.

The night’s fourth race features the Western Australian debut of former Victorian and 2014 Group 3 Brian Johnstone winner Weblec Belle (box three).

She is still a class performer, having reached the final of the recent Group 2 Richmond Oaks and although winless in 11 starts looks a decent each-way chance in this.

Former NSW contenders Serena Fly High (box eight, race eight) and Miracle (box one, race 11), meanwhile, should be too good for their respective fields.
