Borg's Four-Midable Hopes For Wentworth Park

By Jeff Collerson

George Borg rates in-form Mystagogy">Mystagogy, who has box two in the Staff Appreciation Stakes, as the best prospect of his quartet of starters at Wednesday night's Wentworth Park meeting.

The Berkshire Park trainer has a busy night ahead, also having to rug up Nesta No Cry (gbota.com.au Stakes, race two), Gate Juan (Gold Cup Apr 2 & 9 Stakes, race eight) and Curly Magic (Find Us On Facebook Stakes, race 11).

Mystagogy was an impressive start winner at Gosford">Gosford and his trainer believes the greyhound can score another win tonight.

"I believe Mystagogy has a very good chance,'' Borg said.

"He is well boxed in two and his last start win at Gosford on March 22 was impressive. He even surprised me because he missed the jump and was still able to win.

"After missing the kick he pushed through at the first turn and barged between two other dogs to lead going through the catching pen.

"After all that I expected him to get tired but he went to the line strongly.''

Borg was formerly a member of greyhound racing's grading panel and he trains Curly Magic for owner Ken Klembetsanis, who was a fellow grading panellist.

Curly Magic could give Borg a winning double as the dog ran a great race when second to Runway Idole at Wentworth Park last Wednesday night.

Curly Magic was beaten four lengths but would have finished closer had he not been checked off the winner's heels at the first turn.

"While I would have preferred to see Curly Magic drawn nearer the rails, Ken is happy to see him boxed out wide,'' Borg said.

"Curly Magic's second placing last week was a tidy effort because it was only the second time in his life he had been tested over 520 metres.

"I do have a healthy respect for Dean Swain's dog Runway Bono, who has box two and looks to be pretty smart.''

A slick trial at Richmond could have Eva Diva back on track to return to the winning list in Wednesday night's Sky Racing Stakes.

Although this event is a Free-For-All Eva Diva should find it easier than her past two engagements, which were when she was unplaced in the Richmond Oaks final and in a heat of the Ladbrokes Golden Easter Egg.

"She was bowled over in the catching pen recently and that seemed to dent her confidence,'' trainer Mario Abela said. I hand-slipped her post-to-post at Richmond since her last race on March 12 and was happy with how she went.

"She clocked 25.28 and posted smart run home figures.''

Eva Diva races in the middle of the track so she is suitably positioned in box five, especially as she has slow beginner Nightwatchman in box four and wide runner Are Jip in six.

Eva Diva's toughest rival looks to be Are Jip's kennelmate Georgina">Georgina, who is perfectly drawn in box one.

She overcame box six to win a fourth and fifth grade at Wentworth Park on March 19 and was far from disgraced when third from box eight in Hugo Boss's listed Ultra Sense at the track on Saturday night.

Georgina missed the start but railed into third place on the back straight and went to the line powerfully.

Dapto record holder Fantastic Dotty returns to Wentworth Park in the opening event, the wentworthpark.com.au Stakes and is expected to win after drawing near the fence in box three.

The eye-catching pup made it back-to-back victories with a smart 29.88 triumph at Dapto last week.

While Fantastic Dotty has been unplaced in two Wentworth Park outings, trainer Jason Fletcher is unconcerned.

"At her first start there on January 16 she was taken out soon after the start and in her National Futurity heat a week later she was making a big run at the first turn when she was badly checked again,'' Fletcher said.

"She has obviously taken a liking to Dapto but she has trialled as well at Wenty as she has anywhere else so there is no reason why she won't bring her Dapto form to the city.''

Fletcher also has Fantastic Dotty's younger half-brother Fantastic Bear making his long distance debut in Wednesday's 720 Ladbrokes 0-3 Win Stakes.

Fantastic Bear was desperately unlucky when a fast finishing third over 535m at Richmond a week ago and while new to long distance racing is bred to stay, his dam Light Fantastic being a highly talented stayer.

"Fantastic Bear was checked twice at Richmond last week but he brought about his own defeat in a way,'' Fletcher said. "There was a rails run there for him at the first turn but he took the wrong option.

"That is typical of Fantastic Bear - he can run but he is awkward in a field which is why I have decided to step him up in distance and see if he can run 720 metres.''

A big drop in class makes Lord Licrick look Wednesday night's safest wager in the fourth and fifth grade AAA Radiator Specialists Stakes  (520m).

Lord Licrick has won four races at Wentworth Park and was prominent early before finishing fifth in a far tougher Free For All at his most recent start at headquarters last Wednesday.
