Susannah Cargo Looking Strong For Wentworth Park

By Jeff Collerson

Box six should not be enough to prevent western districts flying machine Susannah Cargo taking her record to a remarkable 27 wins from 43 starts in the Ladbrokes Lightning Blitz Final (280m) at Wentworth Park tonight.

Trained at WELLINGTON by her owner-breeder Ron Steel, Susannah Cargo made her Wentworth Park debut in the Lightning Blitz heats and wasn't headed, posting fastest time of the night at 16.09 for the 280m.

The Neil Staines-trained Spiders Brother came from third on the home bend to fail by only a half length to catch Susannah Cargo.

Spiders Brother has box four in Wednesday's final but Susannah Cargo looks better positioned in six, from where she has won two of her three appearances.

"She is a good jumper and all boxes come alike to Susannah Cargo,'' Ron Steel said. "She pulled up well after her heat win and has had the same preparation she always has between races.

"I trial her as if she is going into a 500 metre race, it's the way I have always prepared her so I've changed nothing.''

Yass-based Staines has three strong chances at Wentworth Park on Wednesday as apart from Spiders Brother, he will also bring to Sydney his Maitland Gold Cup hopefuls Tullabung Rock and Rose Petal Zarr.

Tullabung Rock, who has had four wins and a second from five starts, has box two in the gapnsw.com.au Stakes while Rose Petal Zarr, who has had wide Wentworth Park experience, has drawn four in the Ladbrokes GEE Final Saturday Stakes.

"Tullabung Rock should be suited in box two because he is a smart beginner,'' Staines said. "While he has not raced at Wentworth Park he will handle the track well.

"Rose Petal Zarr put the writing on the wall for her race on Wednesday night by finishing a good second at Maitland last Thursday.

"If they go as well as I expect them to on Wednesday I intend nominating them for the Maitland Gold Cup heats on March 31.''

Sweet Runner finished sixth at her most recent Wentworth Park start on March 2 but was desperately unlucky and looks good value in Wednesday night's Get Trackside March 26 Stakes.

Sweet Runner was about to pounce on the lead going through the catching pen at her most recent Wentworth Park start when a rival ran her off the track and ruined her prospects.

She showed she took no harm from that mishap by winning a week later over 535m at Richmond">Richmond in the handy time of 30.79.

At Richmond Sweet Runner had box two and led from the first turn but raced wide, so looks well positioned in six on Wednesday night.

"I have since trialled her at Lithgow over 414m and she clocked 24.44 which is pretty smart,'' trainer Sid Swain said.

The Lithgow short course record is 24.05 so Sweet Runner's time is a strong pointer to her chances at Wentworth Park.

Bambi On Ice could break through for her first Wentworth Park win after drawing box one in Wednesday night's 720m Ladbrokes Bet Better Stakes.

"She is desperate for the rails box,'' trainer Rod Morley said. "Bambi On Ice finished strongly when second, beaten a length, by Madliena Girl over 720m at Wentworth Park on January 27 and that greyhound flew home to run second in a heat of the Association Cup last Saturday night.

"I slipped Bambi On Ice post to post at Canberra last Wednesday and she was the fastest trial of the night so she is ready to go.''
