Benteke Looks Unstoppable In Magic Maiden Semis

By Jeff Collerson

Box one has boom puppy Benteke">Benteke set to be sent out a raging hot favourite in tonight's semi-finals of the Group 3 Ladbrokes Magic Maiden but the other three semi-finals are wide open.

Fastest qualifier Benteke, who zoomed home in an impressive 29.83 in last week's Heat">Heats, has the rails in the third semi-final with the luxury of having the wide running Arena Magic drawn outside him in box two.

"Benteke is not a tight railer but he is a fairly reliable beginner and is a big, strong dog who does every thing right in his races,'' trainer Ruth King said.

"He pulled up perfectly after his Heat win so is raring to go.''

Brooklyn Bad was a certainty beaten when third in his Heat and the Kristy Sultana-trained youngster should only need to begin cleanly to lead throughout from box five in the fourth semi.

In his Heat Brooklyn Bad jumped in front from box eight but while leading narrowly at the first turn was badly checked by a wide runner and lost several lengths.

Under the circumstances the previously unraced puppy put up an outstanding performance to finish third to ZIPPING-jordan">ZIPPING-jordan">ZIPPING">ZIPPING Jordan.

Box five could prove better than it looks on paper for Brooklyn Bad as He's All Power (box four) "walked out'' of the boxes when second in his Heat while No Apologies, box six, is a wide runner.

Western districts owner-trainer Marty Hallinan has qualified with ZIPPING-jordan">ZIPPING">ZIPPING Jordan,  ZIPPING">ZIPPING Outlaw and ZIPPING">ZIPPING Johnny in the first, second and third semi-finals.

"ZIPPING-jordan">ZIPPING">ZIPPING Jordan is the quicker of my trio because ZIPPING Outlaw lacks early speed,'' Hallinan said.

"I am happy with box three for ZIPPING-jordan">ZIPPING">ZIPPING Jordan, who I expect to develop into a good race greyhound, and also for box two for ZIPPING Outlaw.''

I'm tipping the Jason Magri-trained Wicked Warrior, box five, and Lochinvar Brogue, from the Robert Smith kennels, to quinella the second semi-final.

Wicked Warrior was an impressive Heat winner and is widely experienced while Lochinvar Brogue is slow early but is a powerful finisher who is well positioned out wide in box seven.

Marty Hallinan also owns the Jason MACKAY-trained ZIPPING">ZIPPING Lilly who makes her Wentworth Park debut in Heat two of the Group 3 New Sensation on Wednesday night.

"ZIPPING Lilly is highly promising and has trialled well at Wentworth Park,'' MACKAY said. "She has good speed and is strong at the finish but she is not a lid pinger, she is hit or miss at the start.''

Tap Out Rooster">Rooster looks good value after drawing box one in Heat one of the New Sensation.

Along with Heat three this is the strongest qualifying race for Saturday week's final but the Shane Pulbrook-trained greyhound has won three of his past four starts.

Pulbrook has been racing Tap Out Rooster at country tracks Goulburn, Dapto, Temora and Bulli in order to give the dog more experience.

Tap Out Rooster has been placed in one of three Wentworth Park races but Pulbrook said the dog has trialled well enough at headquarters to give Wednesday's star studded race a shake.

This event marks the Wentworth Park debut of Bulli flying machine Super Senor, who has box four.

Super Senor has won five of his eight races but trainer Julie Fletcher is cautious about his winning prospects on Wednesday night.

"Super Senor could lead but he will need to get away with a big break on his rivals if he is to win,'' Fletcher said.

"He trialled only fairly at his first look at Wenty and it could be he is better suited to one turn tracks like Bulli rather than courses such as Wentworth Park.''

Tilly">Tilly's Boy will be favourite for Heat three but the DEAN Swain-trained greyhound is not well drawn in box one.

Tilly's Boy races in the middle of the track and could get cut out in the run to the first turn by speedsters like Blue Pirate, box two, Asa Carrera (four) and Tiggerlong Dot (eight).

Asa Carrera posted early splits of 5.43 and 13.87 before recording 30.08 in an all the way win at her Wentworth Park debut on February 27 so has the speed to overcome box four.

Heat four is wide open but the Shaun Evans-trained Lutiger is nicely positioned in box three as Mr Shire, box two, is notoriously slow early.
