Coorong Kid Looking The Boss At Angle Park

By Stuart Turner

Coorong Kid is in career-best form and looks a good chance to salute again at tonight's Angle Park meeting.

The son of Lonesome Cry and Keep Token jumps from box two in the Extreme Security Free For All CTA Stakes (race seven, 515m) aiming for a seventh win in eight starts.

He also looks ideally drawn in this race, having scored four wins and two minor placings from seven previous starts wearing the checks.

Yvonne Butcher, wife of owner-trainer Cameron, said she was delighted to see Coorong Kid fulfilling his potential.

“We always thought he was one of the better greyhounds in our kennel,” she said.   “He is a strong finisher and you always think if he can jump well, he’s in the race.

“He lost a couple of kilos but we haven’t done anything differently with him over the last few months. It’s just all been down to him.

“He has  tendency to run a bit wide but he does love this box and in his current form he could be hard to beat.”

Coorong Kid has always been a consistent performer, with his record currently standing at 24 wins and 21 minor placings from 66 starts.

His latest win came on March 3 when he defeated a strong field over the 515m in an impressive 29.61.

Butcher’s greyhound has recorded sub-30 second times in each of his last four starts and looks to have the measure of these.

Scarp Missile (box one) has won three of her last four starts but has a mixed record wearing the red rug, having won three and placed twice in nine previous start from the inside draw.

In other action at Angle Park, Coorong Kid’s kennelmate She’s A Looper (box three) looks the top pick in race eight over the 515m.

The classy daughter of Oaks Road and Little Looper has won her last three starts and 11 of 18 overall, including a scorching 29.63 effort at Angle Park last week.

“She won her heat (of the Laurels) at Sandown in December but she injured her fibula,” Butcher said. “She was tending to run wide and it was really hampering her.

“We have her a month off and she’s come back very well.

“She usually jumps well and is a strong finisher.”

Kilter Bale (box eight) is another in-form greyhound and looks the top pick in race six over the 515m.

Wendy Matcott’s greyhound has won his last two starts, including a 30.00 win from the same box on Monday night.

Lady Xanthe (box one) resumes after almost two months out but looks the top pick in race four over the 515m.

She won both her previous starts wearing the red rug and is a classy performer, with 14 wins and four minor placings from 30 starts overall.
