Wilson Hoping To Strike Gold At Albion Park

By Stuart Turner

Peter Wilson rates in-form Gold Diva as the best of his chances at Thursday night’s Albion Park meeting.

Gold Diva jumps from box two in race three (520m) and is one of four greyhounds competing for Wilson at the Brisbane track with the others being Tarks Black Rose (race four, box five),  recent Group 3 Queensland Cup winner Velocity Shirl (race six, box four) and Shyan Yahoo (race seven, box one), who goes for a third win in five starts.

Gold Diva is in great form and will be aiming for a fourth consecutive win on Thursday. Her last win came a fortnight ago when she won a 520m race at Albion Park in 29.96 win.

“We always though she had the ability to go under 30 seconds at Albion Park,” Wilson said.

“We were delighted with that run last week and hopefully she can improve a bit more. She’s not desperate for the rail but obviously the draw won’t hurt her. She has good early speed and box manners.”

“She’s pretty strong and should be capable of challenging for this one.”

Of Wilson’s other runners, Velocity Shirl is on the back-up after she finished fourth in a heat of the Group 2 Richmond Oaks last Friday and should appreciate a slight drop in grade.

Shyan Yahoo was fourth in a high-quality race over the 520m on her last start on February 18 but with two wins and two minor placings from five previous starts with the red rug also looks a decent chance.

Tarks Black Rose finished fifth in her Oaks heat but won over the 600m at Albion Park two starts back in a smart 34.83.

“Velocity Girl walked out of the boxes at Richmond last week but she was racing well prior to that,” Wilson said. “I’m hopefully she’ll do better back at Albion Park.

Shyan Yahoo is in a tough race but again in her current form and with the draw has to be a chance.

“I have some chances but I’d say Gold Diva is my best hope.”

In other action, red hot Goodbye Hug aims for a sixth win in seven starts when she jumps from box eight in race five over the 520m.

She won her first Albion Park start last week from box two and although shifting out wide this time, she looks to have the pace to defeat these.

Old Spice has mixed form recently but looks ideally drawn in box one to take out race eight over the 520m.
