Fun Boss Aiming To Rule Mandurah

By Stuart Turner

Box one specialist Fun Boss has drawn the prized red rug as he looks to continue his return to form with a third straight win at Saturday night's Mandurah meeting.

Last year’s Group 2 WA Derby will compete in the Free For All Gibbons Holden Gosnells Stakes (race four, 490m) fresh from his latest victory last Saturday night where he won over the same track and distance jumping from box one.

That win extended Fun Boss’s record from box one to five victories from six starts and his trainer Lexia Isaac believes her kennel star can add to that record on Saturday.

“I couldn’t believe our luck when he got box one again,” she said.  “He is such a good beginner so when he has the inside rail it’s a real bonus for him.

“This is another tough race but he’ll likely be the favourite and rightly so. As long as he gets out okay and gets to that first bend then his pace usually makes him very hard to run down.”

Isaac is passing on bringing Fun Boss over to NSW for the forthcoming Golden Easter Egg series and will instead concentrate on running him at the new Cannington track, which is due to open shortly.

“He went well at the old Cannington and I think the new place will suit him as well,” she said.

“He won the Puppy Classic and Derby, so if he could win another feature race that would be terrific.

“He’s in super form (so) I expect him to go well again this week.”

Yunderup Dozer (box three), who was two-and-a-half lengths behind Fun Boss last week, will once again go up against the in-form greyhound and looks the biggest threat to halting his progress.

Living Proof (box two), meanwhile, has mixed his form recently but is also worth considering in the Free For All event.

In other action at Mandurah on Saturday night, Cobra Clutch is back on top form after a below-par spell and looks the top pick in race six over the 490m.

Jamie Marsh’s greyhound (box three) made it back-to-back wins on his last start at Mandurah two weeks ago and should be fresh and firing for this.

Mulwee Dream produced arguably his best career performance at Mandurah last week and looks the one to back in race eight over the 490m.

Christine Robartson’s greyhound won in 27.58 and although he is unfavourably drawn in box four should have the measure of these.

Former NSW star Winsome Jacko (box four) stepped up to the 647m perfectly last week with a sound win and can score another win over the distance in race nine.

Best known for breaking the 400m track record at Maitland, Winsome Jacko has been racing solidly since transferring to Paul Stuart’s gun kennel last year.

He faces a tough field this week but is getting stronger and on current form looks capable of saluting again.
