Fantastic Skye Heads Dazzling Oaks Fields

By Stuart Turner

Recent Group 2 Laurels Classic winner Fantastic Skye and in-form pair Good Odds Angel and Mitcharlie Mia head a terrific line-up for this Friday’s Group 2 Unibet Richmond Oaks (535m).

Hot newcomer All A Blaze and impressive littermates Camden Gossip and Camden Valleyway are also among the runners taking part in the four heats.

Camden Gossip (box four) looks the pick in the first heat having scored seven wins in her last 10 starts.

She has won four and placed four times on 10 visits to Richmond and with no devastating pace inside her, she looks capable of overcoming the tricky draw.

Fantastic Skye, meanwhile (pictured), will have her first start at Richmond in heat two on Friday night in which she will jump from box five. The Jason Fletcher-trained greyhound has prepared for the Oaks with three solid placings at Wentworth Park and if her win in the Laurels Classic is anything to go by will be very hard to hold out on Friday night.

Fantastic Skye will have to contend with All A Blaze, who ran an impressive 30.48 at Richmond last Saturday and looks ideally drawn in box one.

Mitcharlie Mia (box eight, heat three) makes her Richmond debut after burning up the NSW Northern Rivers in recent months with some storming runs.

She recently placed at Wentworth Park and although this draw is tricky, she has the class to win from out wide.

Camden Valleyway is better drawn in box two and with four wins from seven previous starts at Richmond should figure again.

Cardiology (box four) has drawn poorly but ran a brilliant 30.46 at Richmond on December 23 and looks tempting.

Good Odds Angel (box six, heat three) has won her last three – all at Wentworth Park – and looks primed for this series.

She has built a solid record of 10 wins and seven minor placings from 26 starts  and is likely to have trialled extensively at her local track.

Best value chance for the series could be recent Group 2 Gosford Gold Cup placegetter  Eva Diva, who has box seven in the first heat.

She has scored back-to-back wins at Wentworth Park recently and has won two of her four previous visits to Richmond.

Four heats of the Richmond Oaks take place on Friday night with the top two placegetters qualifying for next Friday’s final.
