Bessy Boo Headlines Richmond Derby heats

By Stuart Turner

Bessy Boo, Knight Sprite and the in-form Brad Hill Billy headline the fields for this Friday night’s heats of the Group 2 Remedial Waterproofing Richmond Derby (535m).

Four heats of the Derby will take place at Richmond with the top two placegetters qualifying for next week’s final.

The Christine Proctor-trained Bessy Boo will jump from box seven in the third heat looking to qualify for yet another Group final.

Despite approaching four years of age, Bessy Boo (pictured) has been in a rich vein of form this year, having finished no worse than second at his seven starts in 2016.

While he has done most of his recent racing at Wentworth Park, Bessy Boo has a formidable record at Richmond, having won six times at the track during his career.

Knight Sprite, meanwhile, will start the series in terrific form after his win in the Ladbrokes Bulli Gold Cup Consolation last Friday night and looks the clear top pick in heat two, in which he will jump from box seven.

The Gosford Cup winner has won five of his seven starts from this box and ran a strong 30.66 on his last visit to Richmond in July last year.

Brad Hill Billy has run impressively recently since returning from a spell in Victoria and looks the pick in heat four.

Last year’s Group 2 Bob Payne Spring Sprint winner is a class act and scored a sound placing at Richmond over this distance last week.

Other greyhounds competing in the Derby heats include La Grand Logie (heat one, box three), Ritza Rossi (heat one, box eight) Rudianos (heat two, box four) and Victorian-based greyhounds Rare Pearl (heat three, box four) and Alpha Hermes (box two, heat four).

Four heats of the Unibet Richmond Oaks will also take place at Richmond on Friday night. For more on those heats, click here.
