Richmond And Maitland Now Night Meetings

By GRNSW

Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) wishes to advise that Wednesday's meeting at Richmond and Thursday's meeting at Maitland have both been transferred to nighttime slots due to extreme temperatures forecast for NSW this week.

The decision to move both meetings to nighttime slots was made after the Bureau of Meteorology predicted that temperatures will reach 38 degrees Celsius in the Richmond region on Wednesday and 40 degrees Celsius at Maitland on Thursday.

The first race at Richmond will start at 6.52pm with kennels closing at 6.07pm.

The first race at Maitland will now start at 6.54pm with kennels closing at 6.09pm.

The Hot temperatures forecast will also mean the Gunnedah meeting this Saturday has also been transferred to a nighttime slot. Race times for this meeting will be confirmed shortly.

With the extremely Hot temperatures forecast across the NSW this week, participants are reminded to take care and monitor their greyhound for potential heat stress.

GRNSW’s Hot%20Weather%20Racing%20Fact%20Sheet.pdf">Hot Weather Racing Fact Sheet can assist in minimising the damage heat stress can cause in your greyhound(s), including information on GRNSW’s on-track Hot weather procedures.

Hot and humid weather can cause heat stress in greyhounds. The higher the temperature and humidity, the more likely it is that heat stress will occur, especially if there is no air movement.

Importantly heat stress may not be directly proportional to temperature, with higher humidity being the major precursor to heat stress in greyhounds.

It is the responsibility of owners and/or trainers with the care of greyhounds, in accordance with the Greyhound Racing Rules, GRNSW Code of Practice for the Keeping of Greyhounds in
Training and the NSW Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, to ensure the effective management of environmental factors such as Hot weather and to take steps to minimise any adverse impact on greyhounds in their care.

Please consult GRNSW’s Greyhound Veterinary Unit or its Integrity officers at the various greyhound tracks should you require any further information.
