Krugerrand Looking To Cash In At Mandurah

By Stuart Turner

Krugerrand looks a strong chance to continue his meteoric progress with another victory at Saturday night’s Mandurah meeting.

The highly promising newcomer, who has won nine and placed three times on his 12 starts so far, jumps from box three in the $13,500-to-the-winner 5th grade Greyhounds WA Channing Trophy (490m, race five).

From the gun WA kennel of Paul Stuart, he has produced two sensational performances in recent weeks, running 27.26 on February 2 and then a dazzling 27.28 on February 13.

The impressive son of Collision and Goldie Bale looks the clear top pick in this race, although he could face a decent challenge from the consistent Gorham Bale (box two).

Kruggerrand’s win from box three last week was the first time he had started from box three and he should have enough pace to get round his rivals on his inside.

His strongest opponent looks like Jimmy Margetts (box six), who has won his last two starts and ran a scorching 27.28 at Mandurah two starts back.

Kruggerand’s kennelmate Quartz Bale has been impressive since returning in January from seven months out and can score a win in race three (490m).

He has scored two wins and two minor placings from his last five starts and won both is previous starts from box six.

Fun Boss is back on top form after a below-par spell and looks ideally drawn in box one to score a victory in race four.

She ran a devastating 27.23 last week at Mandurah, has scored three wins and three minor placings in her last six starts and has won out of five starts wearing the red rug.

Kardy Girl (box two) and Activator (box seven) have both been competing well against tougher company than appears this week, so look the picks in races eight and 11 respectively.

For value, Runaway Earner (box seven) looks a decent chance in the night’s second race over the 490m.

Runaway Earner has been mixing form recently but is much better than last week’s seventh place and has run some good races at Mandurah, including a 27.55 win two starts back.

All Strung Out in box one will likely take some holding out but Runaway Earner has placed on both of his previous starts from this box and can challenge again.
