Rockin' Bingo Aiming To Roll At Bathurst

By Stuart Turner

Rockin’ Bingo will look to continue his return from a long injury lay-off with a win at Bathurst today.

The greyhound  returned from After six months away from the races with an spectacular win at Richmond last week, where he equalled the 330m track record with a 18.37 run.

The run was made more impressive given the fact it was Rockin’ Bingo’s first start in six months After a succession of niggling injuries.

He will look to continue that good form when he jumps from box four in the 5th grade Vic Hotel Stakes (race nine, 307m).

Despite never having raced at Bathurst, Josh Jones, whose father Steven trains Rockin’ Bingo in ORANGE, is optimistic of another win.

“He has explosive box speed,” Jones said. “If he uses that then starting from box four shouldn’t be a problem.

“I think his best asset is also his will to win. He’ s a very determined greyhound.

After the problems he’s had, winning is a bonus (but) I think he has a chance.”

Rockin’ Bingo jumped superbly at Richmond last Wednesday to power home by five-and-a-half lengths and equal the 2012 record by Squashed Bananas.

Nipper Zarr (box two) looks the next best but After Rockin’ Bingo’s terrific run last week, he looks the best chance in this race.

“It was just great to see him back on the track,” Jones said.   “It was such a relief to see him stay sound.

“You tap yourself a couple of times to make sure it has gone to plan.

“I think he has a lot of growing to do yet. If he can stay sound he should develop with a bit more experience.”

In other Bathurst Monday action, track specialist Handsome Devil can overcome a strong field including Group 2 winner Brad Hill Billy in race eight (520m).

Handsome Devil (box six) is another lightly raced greyhound but he has won seven of his 11 races and is unbeaten wearing the green rug.

Grovebrook Blade and Molly Maze have previously shown ability look ideally drawn in box one to take out races three and six respectively.
