Stars Are Out For Bulli Gold Cup

By Stuart Turner

Exciting newcomer Ritza Lenny, recent Group 1 National Derby winner Magic Spring and in-form Star Torana head the fields for this Friday’s Group 2 Ladbrokes Cyril Rowe Bulli Gold Cup (472m) heats.

Group 2 Gosford Cup winner Knight Sprite and track record holder Sandave Prince also feature in the four heats of the $40,000-to-the-winner series.

Ritza Lenny looks ideally drawn in box three in the first heat, from which he has both his previous two starts.

Mark Gatt’s promising pup has scored three of his four victories at Bulli, including a sizzling 26.02 victory last month.

Ultra-consistent Nangar Flame (box five) and Sandave Prince (box seven), who broke the track record in November with a scorching 25.85 run, look the most dangerous opposition.

Sandave Prince was two-and-a-quarter-lengths behind Ritza Lenny last Friday but is also well drawn, having won both his previous starts from box seven.

Magic Spring (box three) and Knight Sprite (box four)  meet in the second heat, with both looking well drawn.

Both will have to contend with El Magnifico (box two), who has had two brilliant victories at Bulli in near track record time.

Talented but inconsistent Kihael Kaluna (box six), another from the gun Gatt kennel, is possibly the top pick in heat three.

A winner of seven of his 15 starts so far, he has won all three of his previous visits to Bulli and one of his two previous starts from box six.

Sweetwater Boy (box four), a smart 26.17 winner at Bulli last month who can handle the middle boxes, looks the most prominent threat.

Star Torana will jump from box one in the fourth heat fresh from her terrific 29.70 win from box two at Wentworth Park last Saturday night.

She has won three of her four previous visits to Bulli and is very strong from the inside, having won twice and placed twice from four previous starts wearing the red rug.

La Grand Logie (box eight) is a high-class greyhound and must be considered but looks to have drawn poorly.

Dark Magnum (box five), who won from box four at Bulli last Friday night and has won two of his three previous trips to the NSW South Coast track, looks a decent value chance.

The final of the Group 2 Ladbrokes Cyril Rowe Gold Cup takes place next Friday and headlines a terrific night’s action at Bulli.
