Acquisition Looking A Smart Choice

By Jeff Collerson

Acquisition, the only Wentworth Park winner in the field, only needs even luck to be Saturday night's best bet in the 520m Ladbrokes Bet Better Stakes.

The Mark Gatt-trained greyhound has box four but has moderate beginners each side of him and with an uninterrupted passage through the race should score his fourth win in 10 starts.

"His problem is he does not have a lot of early pace so he is always going to need luck in his races,'' Gatt said. "I expect him to go close to winning if he gets a clear run, though.''

Gatt could land a winning double as Road Agent has drawn his favourite box, number one, in the 520m gapnsw.com.au Stakes.

"He is a different greyhound from an inside box,'' Gatt said.

"Dave Irwin's greyhound Fancy Dancer, who has box two, should give Road Agent room to move in the run to the first turn.''

Sheba">Sheba's Diva looks good value after drawing box one in the ladbrokes.com.au Stakes.

The Michelle Shambler-trained greyhound has won twice from the rails trap and boasts the excellent Wentworth Park record of five wins and eight placings from 29 starts.

Although Sheba Diva has been campaigning in Queensland she can make a winning return to Wentworth Park.

She won over 395m at Brisbane's Albion Park on January 17 before finishing down the course over 520m there and over 515m at at Gosford on February 9.

"It is hard to tell whether she is going as well as when she was last winning at Wentworth Park because at her past two starts Sheba's Diva has jumped smartly but immediately found trouble and lost all chance,'' Shambler said.

But it's worth noting Sheba's Diva, a good railer, drew boxes five and seven when she suffered interference in her two recent unplaced outings.

Good Odds Angel ran the race of her life to win from box seven at Wentworth Park last Saturday night and is poised to notch her fourth Wentworth Park win in Saturday night's first Ladbrokes Easter Egg Prelude, 520m.

Usually a fast beginner, Good Odds Angel dwelt at box rise last week but swept around her rivals to lead at the first turn.

She then drew away to win easily, and while her time of 30.11 was outside her personal best Wentworth Park figures of 29.93, it was Good Odds Angel's best performance.

On Saturday she moves from box seven to box one but trainer Tracey Hurst does not think that will be a problem.

"She does love an outside box but she will handle the rails okay,'' Hurst said.

"My husband Frank and I considered nominating her for Saturday night's Richmond Cannonball heats but decided to stay at Wentworth Park.

"Good Odds Angel is a fourth grade greyhound at Wenty and with the Preludes for fourth and fifth graders we knew she would not be outgraded.''

Johnny Magic, who led throughout to win in top grade at Wentworth Park on Wednesday night, should only need to jump cleanly to win Saturday night's second Easter Egg Prelude.

Johnny Magic drops from top grade to fourth and fifth class company on Saturday night.

"Once he led tonight I knew they would not run him down," trainer Charlie Dimech said. "Johnny Magic is very strong when he is on the bunny.

"He is going so well now because he is chasing much more keenly these days.

"Dropping back in grade is great and while box four is obviously a worry he should win if he jumps like he did on Wednesday.''
