Mr Cowora Aims For The Hat-Trick

By Stuart Turner

Exciting prospect Mr Cowora aims to maintain his unbeaten record at Gosford on Tuesday night but trainer Jimmy McGlinn is expecting a tough battle.

The young greyhound, who has won his only two starts to date, jumps from box one in the fifth grade Rapid Clean Central Coast Stakes (515m, race five) aiming for a hat-trick of victories.

Mr Cowora has scored both his victories from box five, registering an impressive 29.89 debut win on debut before improving on that run with a 29.76 triumph last week.

McGlinn who trains Mr Cowora from his Abermain base believes his greyhound should figure again this week, even though Peaceful Dream (box two) and Coachella, in box four, both have the early pace to threaten Mr Cowora.

“The box will help him but he is no certainty,” McGlinn said.

“There’s a couple here that can go round him to the first corner. I would like Mr Cowora to find an extra length on his first sectional times.

“It’s hard to say how much improvement he has in terms of racing times but he is doing everything right so far.

“I think $1.40 (as suggested by thedogs.com.au) would be a crazy price given the quality of other greyhounds but I am expecting him to run a good race.”

Mr Cowora is part of a handy litter by Magic Sprite and Slick Exit which includes the likes of Rapid Exit, Mr. Shire and Wild Torn Blazer, who have all made decent starts to their racing careers.

“He has shown natural track sense and I’m really pleased with how he’s done,” McGlinn said.

In other Gosford Tuesday action, classy veteran Knocka’s Return looks ideally drawn to score yet another victory in race eight (600m).

Mark  Wilcox’s greyhound, a winner of 36 of his 90 starts, is always in contention at NSW Country tracks and has a terrific record of nine wins and five minor placings from 15 starts with the red rug.

Flying Brodelli, meanwhile, looks the top pick in the Ladbrokes Better Bet Maiden Final (race three, 515m) following a brilliant 29.58 win in last week’s heats. That was her debut win but the lightly raced pup looks to be hitting her straps now and should benefit from being drawn closer to the rails.

Sugar Hit Macey (box six) is in good form and can score another victory in race nine over the 400m.

She has won four out her last five and with two wins from box seven can handle a wide draw.
