Magic Spreads To Temlee

NSW’s latest Group race winners Magic Spring (pictured) and CASH In Motion are among the invitees for the forthcoming $100,000-to-the-winner Group 1 Temlee (525m).

The pair, who won last Saturday night’s Group 1 National Derby and National Futurity respectively at Wentworth Park, are among 31 of the country’s best greyhounds to receive invites for the race.

Magic Spring has received an invite for the series, which takes place at The Meadowsafter his terrific victory in the Derby for NSW Central Coast owner-trainer Noelene Holloway,

CASH In Motion, owned and trained by NSW Northern Rivers-based Robbie Cooke, has been included after her terrific come-from-behind victory in the Futurity.

Fellow NSW stars and Group winners Black Bear Lee, Brad Hill Billy, Fantastic Skye, Fantastic Spiral and Knight Sprite are also among the invitees.

Last year’s Group 1 Vic Peters Classic winner and star of the gun Anthony Azzopardi kennel  Zambora Brockie, together with the consistent Jason Mackay-trained Smart Missile, also fly the blue flag.

Thirty-one greyhounds from across Australia have received invites for the Temlee.

More than $1.2m is up for grabs in the series, which gets under way with heats of the Temlee on Saturday, February 20.

NSW Northern Rivers star Norm The Storm, who aims for his second Group victory this Thursday in the Group 3 Queensland Cup, is among the nominees for the Group 1 Rookie Rebel (600m).

After starring at 520m level, Norm The Storm has moved up to the 600m distance impressively by scoring three wins in four starts at Albion Park in sizzling times.

Star NSW stars Ada Mary, No Donuts and Whittaker are among the invitees for the Group 1 Zoom Top (725m).

Ada Mary and No Donuts have scored four Group victories between them over the last 12 months, while Whittaker has produced some impressive recent performances over the 720m at Wentworth Park.

Victorian superstar Dyna Double One, who moved up to the middle distances in style with a track record over the 595m at Sandown Park last Thursday, is on the initial list for the Group 1 Rookie Rebel (600m) as well as the Temlee.

Expressions of interest for the three races close next Monday, with an expert panel then deciding the line-up for each race.

Confirmed fields will be announced on Wednesday, February 10.

The carnival also includes the Group 1 Australian Cup, with preliminary winners joining the top 56 greyhounds accepted into the heats on Saturday, February 27.
