Bessy Boo Looking A Cut Above The Rest

By Jeff Collerson

Crowd favourite Bessy Boo might appear to be drawn on the wrong side of the track but the NSW star only needs to find a clear run to secure his 20th Wentworth Park win on Wednesday night.

Bessy Boo has box eight in the Ladbrokes Bet Better Free For All and while the Christine Proctor-trained dog is a great railer he has been able to win four of his 17 starts wearing the pink rug.

In fact, Bessy Boo's 32 victories have come from every box and he has an uncanny knack of being able to thread his way through a field.

With noted front-runners Good Odds Regina (box three) and La Grand Logie (five) likely to "cut at'' each other for the early lead and with Black Bear Lee (box six) likely to cross towards the inside, Bessy Boo could have Wednesday's race run to suit him.

Best bet on the card shapes up as the Denice Warren-trained Too Many Daddys, who has box four in the fifth grade 10th event.

Too Many Daddys has been placed in three of her six Wentworth Park starts, mostly against stronger company than she meets this week.

She was a last start winner over 520m at Nowra">Nowra in 30.25 and will relish having a vacant box on her right hand side.

"I was pleased with her Nowra win even though the time was nothing flash,'' Warren said. "Too Many Daddys is usually not at her best when she is 'off' the lure early but she found early trouble and came from behind to win at Nowra.

"If she comes out of the boxes cleanly I expect her to run a good race.''

There is not a better drawn runner at Wentworth Park on Wednesday than Maria">Maria's Impact, who has box one in race three, another fifth grade event.

Maria's Impact made her debut for trainer Ron Lambert when third to Brilliant Shot and Lovelace at Wentworth Park last Wednesday.

"She had box seven last week and she likes the fence so I was rapt when she drew box one,'' Lambert said.

"Last week she was having her first race for six months and all she wanted to do was chop across to the fence.

"Before last Wednesday's race Maria's Impact trialled 29.84sec for me over 515m at The Gardens so she is going nicely.''

Maria's Impact looms as the value bet of the night because Maggie's Empire (box two) goes fast early but uses a bit of the track and is likely to give Lambert's greyhound a clear run to the first turn.

Trainer Dave Richardson admits he was disappointed with Sandave Sapphire's third and fourth placings at her past two starts over 590m at Bulli but believes her draw in Wednesday night's AAA Radiator Specialists Stakes, a 720m fifth grade, brings her right into the race.

Sandave Sapphire won in a blistering 31.51 over 565m at Maitland on December 31 before being beaten at Bulli on January 22 and 29.

"She missed the jump in both her Bulli runs and a very experienced clocker down there told me that if you miss the kick from a wide draw out of the Bulli 590m boxes you finish up conceding the leaders eight lengths' start,'' Richardson said.

"The quiet lure at Bulli could have contributed to Sandave Sapphire bungling the start and if she has her mind on the job she will be hard to beat from box three on Wednesday.''

Although Sandave Sapphire's tally in three Wentworth Park 720m appearances stands at just one second placing, Richardson has no doubt she will "get'' the 720m.
