White Has An Ace Up His Sleeve

By Jeff Collerson

A slick 520m trial after the last race at Wentworth Park last Saturday night has Greysynd Ace looking primed to win on debut at the track tonight.

The Wayne White-trained greyhound jumps from box two in Wednesday's second event, a 720m Mixed Stakes, as part of a competitive night's action at the Sydney track.

Greysynd Ace, who has won three from 10 starts at the provincials, has not started since winning over 590m at Bulli">Bulli on New Year's Day.

He has proven his fitness by winning a two dog trial over 520m at Wentworth Park on Saturday, clocking the smart time of 30.10.

"I trialled Greysynd Ace after the last race and he came from behind to win the trial," White's son Jake said.

"Although he is new to 720 metres I was encouraged by the strong way he got to the line in Saturday's trial because he came home in a fast 11.60.

"The way they are drawn we expect him to be in front at the first turn and believe he is capable of clocking around 42.60.

"That should be good enough to win this race.''

La Grand Logie beat National Derby finalist Sleek Master on his merits in a Wentworth Park Free-For-All on January 16 so appeals as Wednesday's best bet after being drawn in the fourth grade opening event.

La Grand Logie led throughout from box one when he defeated Sleek Master and subsequent top grade winner Black Bear Lee at Wentworth Park on January 1.

While he moves to box seven on Wednesday the sharp drop in class should offset the wide draw.

"Because there wasn't a race for La Grand Logie at Wenty on Saturday night he needed a gallop so I took him to The Gardens and trialled him over 515m,'' trainer Jeff Eaton said.

"There was a heavy thunderstorm just before he trialled so he took 30.50 to run the full distance, but his first two sections were flying so I was happy with how he went.

"After Wednesday I will probably nominate La Grand Logie for the heats of the Ladbrokes Cyril Rowe Cup at Bulli on February 12.''

Two Parts Freak was a certainty beaten when sixth at Wentworth Park last Wednesday night and will be good value to atone in this week's eighth event, a 520m fifth grade.

Last week Two Parts Freak trailed pacemaker Master Gee to the home turn but collided heavily with that tiring greyhound at the top of the straight.

At that point Two Parts Freak was about to pounce on the lead and win and while she has box four on Wednesday she has the early pace to lead throughout.

Bekim Maxim, box three, lacks early speed while Two Parts Freak, who has won three races at Wentworth Park, is a reliable beginner.

Favourite Brilliant Shot is a good railer and has box two but he has won only one race at Wenty and will need luck to avoid interference from Gate Juan, a fast starter who has box one.

"I think my bitch needs to lead to win because her run home times at Wentworth Park are nothing flash," Two Parts freak's trainer Phil Wall said.

"Despite what happened last start she took no harm from the run and is nice and fresh and ready to go.

"Brilliant Shot will probably be my hardest rival as he is trained by Anthony Azzopardi whose greyhounds are always very hard to beat.''

Sid Vicious, a litter brother to brilliant speedster Black Frenzy, is tipped to take out the Sky Racing To Gosford Final at WP on Wednesday night.

Sid Vicious won his 515m Gosford heat on January 19 in 30.20 and should be heavily favoured by the draw.
