Mister Cowora Looks A Hot Chance At Gosford

By Stuart Turner

Jimmy McGlinn rates Mister Cowora as one of the best young greyhounds he has worked with in more than 60 years of training and is confident he can maintain his unbeaten record at Gosford’s Australia Day meeting.

Mister Cowora was very impressive in winning on debut at Gosford last week in a time of 29.89.

He will back-up on Tuesday evening in a fifth grade event – the Brisbane Water Caravans Stakes (515m, race eight) – in which he will jump from box five.

While the rise into the higher grade will be a challenge, McGlinn is confident of Mr Cowora’s chances.

“He’s in the top ten greyhounds I’ve had when we start to break them in,” he said.

“It’s early days but from day one I cannot fault him. He’s a nice greyhound in the kennels and a natural chaser.

“It’s always a concern with greyhounds who have had impressive maidens to see if they back it up, especially when they are up against handy greyhounds like this. It’s also a tough draw but I think he’s a chance.”

Mr Cowora is part of a handy-looking litter that also includes Rapid Exit, Mr. Shire and Wild Torn Blazer, the latter of which has already scored three smart wins at Unibet Gardens.

“If you go back through the dam line, it’s a very a strong line of stayers,” McGlinn said.

“That’s where they are getting their strength from. (Mister Corowa) will likely not be a magnificent price but I’m expecting him to run a good race.”

In other Gosford Tuesday action, Magic Senorita (box seven) looks the top pick in the night’s opening race.

She scored a sound six length-victory on debut from box eight at Gosford last week in 23.05.

Cosmic Shower (box eight) faces a quality field but can score victory in race six.

He has raced solidly in strong company at Wentworth Park recently and scored a terrific 29.56 win from the same box at Gosford in September.

Both Mystic Quality and Brother Sox look ideally drawn wearing the red rug to win races four and seven respectively.

Mystic Quality has scored consecutive placings in her last two starts, while Brother Sox was a smart winner from the same alley at Maitland on December 24.
