Britton's Run To The Roses

By Stuart Turner

Robbie Britton’s golden run of recent success could continue with Tap Out Rose in this Saturday’s Group 1 Ladbrokes Paws Of Thunder (520m).

Tap Out Rose (currently $9 with Sportsbet) jumps from box two in the feature race at Wentworth Park looking a tempting bolter chance after her impressive 29.81 win in last Saturday’s heats.

She is certainly in good hands with champion Victorian trainer Britton, who has scored group wins in recent weeks with both Lithgow Panther and Above All.

Tap Out Rose is running in really good form at the moment and seems to be very confident,” Britton said.

“She’s probably not the best greyhound in the race but she is racing well moment and the draw has given her an opportunity. If she gets any sort of luck in the final then I think she is a decent each-way chance.”

Last Saturday night’s triumph was a sixth victory at Wentworth Park for Tap Out Rose, who was formerly trained by western Sydney owner Rodney Metselaar before switching to Britton’s kennels in October last year.

As her first sectional of 5.52 last Saturday showed, she is capable of pinging the lids and her consistent record of 13 wins and 17 minor placings from 46 starts demands respect.

Tap Out Rose has a mixed record of two wins and three minor placings from nine previous starts wearing the checks but has won her last three races.

She is part of a high-quality field for Saturday’s highly anticipated race, one of the biggest of the year in NSW.

Zambora Brockie (box six) is the $1.90 favourite with Sportsbet after his brilliant 29.60 run from box one in his heat.

Last year’s Group 1 Vic Peters Classic winner has won six of his last seven trips to Wentworth Park as part of a formidable overall record of 12 wins and four minor placings from 20 starts.

Smart Missile (box four, $4.80) is a brilliant talent from Jason Mackay’s gun kennel  and has a best of 29.43 at Wentworth Park.

A strong finisher who won his heat in 29.89, he has won two of his four previous starts from box four and can still win from this unfavourable draw.

Nangar Flame (box one, $4.20) has won three of his last five trips to Wentworth Park and produced a mighty come-from-behind heat triumph.

He has one win and two minor placings from three previous starts wearing the red rug and can figure if he repeats last Saturday’s 29.77 run.

Asa Flying Spur (box three), Paloma Lago in box five, Elfen Bale (box seven) and box eight’s Helga Bale complete the high-quality field.

The Group 1 Ladbrokes Paws Of Thunder headlines a terrific night’s racing at Wentworth Park, also featuring the Group 2 Summer Distance Plate (720m).
