Chances Look Pretty For Devonport Cup

By Stuart Turner

Prescribe, Ain’t She Pretty and Repayments look the ones to watch in today’s Group 3 Dowling McCarthy Hankook Tyres Devonport Cup (452m) heats.

Seven heats of the $25,000-to-the-winner take place this afternoon, with each heat winner and the fastest runners-up progressing to next Monday’s final.

Ted Medhurst took out the title last year with Dark Vito and he should score a win in the first heat with Prescribe, who looks ideally drawn in box one.

Prescribe has been one of Tasmania’s leading greyhounds since debuting in September 2014, scoring 17 wins and 23 minor placings from 57 starts.

He should be too strong from box one, from which he has won three times and placed four times from Seven previous starts, and won his last Devenport start in an impressive 25.13.

Ain’t She Pretty is another greyhound who looks ideally drawn from box one in the second heat.

She has won three of her last four starts from box one and is in good form, having scored a win over the 461m at Hobart on New Year’s Day.

Repayments (box five, heat four) is making her debut here but brings plenty of form from his native Victoria.

He also has a good record from the squeeze box, having won twice and placed once in four previous starts wearing the yellow rug.

Others to watch today include recent Group 1 Hobart Thousand placegetter Tecoma Emily (box one, heat three), Keune (box one, heat five) and Droopy’s Dasher (box two, heat six).

A decent value chance for the series could be Aces And Angels, who starts his campaign from box eight in heat six.

He has an unspectacular record wearing the pink rug but ran solidly in a recent three-month spell in NSW for Mark Azzopardi and placed in a heat of last month’s Group 1 Hobart Thousand.

Breaker’s Tip (box five, heat three) has been out of luck in his last few starts but has won three of five starts from the squeeze box and also cannot be overlooked.

He has been racing in tough company recently and has scored six of his 25 career victories at Devenport, including a best of 25.26.
