Smart Missile Primed For Gosford Cup

In-form Smart Missile, double Group-winner Fantastic Spiral and potential series bolter Mitcharlie Mia head the contenders for Sunday’s terrific Group 2 Woy Woy Poultry Gosford Cup (515m) Heats.

He enjoyed a sound 29.80 win over a strong field on his Gosford debut on Tuesday night and looks ideally drawn with the red rug.

Bessy Boo (box seven), who has failed to place in his last three starts but can never be discounted, looks the likeliest top challenger.

Heat two features the Gayle Masterson-trained Knight Sprite (box three).

Knight Sprite has won three of his previous visits to Gosford and is in good form, with two wins and four placings from his last eight starts.

Heat three features a quality field including flying Northern Rivers hopeful Mitcharlie Mia in box eight.

Mitcharlie Mia has been terrific performer at her local NSW tracks this year and scored an impressive 29.82 win on her first look at Gosford">Gosford last week.

She has won her last four starts and even from the outside looks capable of winning this.

Heat four is headlined by what could be a terrific battle between high-class pair Fantastic Spiral (box three) and Head Shy in box seven.

Fantastic Spiral has never raced at Gosford but has a super record of six wins and five placings from 11 starts wearing the white rug.

Head Shy (box seven) has a poor record from out wide but ran a superb 29.76 at Gosford last month and looks another decent value chance for the series.

The four Heats of the Gosford Cup, which will be decided next Friday, are part of an impressive 10-race meeting at Gosford this Sunday.
