GRNSW Announces Penalty

On 14 December 2015, Greyhound Racing New South Wales (GRNSW) announced that it was conducting an inquiry into alleged offences under the GRNSW Greyhound Racing Rules (Rules) as part of an inquiry.

On 17 December 2015, trainer Geoff Sheather pleaded guilty of offences under Rules 86 (d) and 86 (n) of the Rules. On the same day former Young & District Greyhound Racing Club Steward Rod Johnson pleaded guilty of an offence under Rule 86 (m) of the Rules.

After affording Mr Sheather an opportunity to make submissions on the penalty to be imposed as a result of the offences, GRNSW Stewards have determined that the following penalties should be imposed:

• A period of disqualification of six months with respect to both charges, with both penalties to be served concurrently.

Mr Sheather has appealed the decision of Stewards.

After affording Mr Johnson an opportunity to make submissions on the penalty to be imposed as a result of the offence, GRNSW Stewards have determined that the following penalty should be imposed:

• A 12 month warning off period.

Mr Johnson was afforded  the right to lodge an appeal against the decision of the Stewards.
