Elson Confident Of Another Magical Night

By Stuart Turner

Bill Elson describes Cyndie’s Magic as the “perfect” greyhound and the trainer believes she could be drawn to win the Middle Distance Challenge Final (race seven, 600m) at Thursday’s Albion Park meeting.

Cyndie’s Magic jumps from box six having been in consistent form recently, having scoring seven consecutive placings.

That run featured two placings in the heats and the final of the Group 1 Sky Racing Brisbane Cup (520m),  where she finished second in both races behind superstar Victorian Dyna Double One.

Both Magic Maiden (box seven) and Oxley Rubey in box eight are coming off impressive last start wins but Elson is confident Cyndie’s Magic can win.

“It doesn’t usually matter where she starts from,” he said.  “She always takes a while to settle down, but then comes home late.

“I always know she’ll be coming home fast. If she drops out to last then it may be a good thing. There’s a lot of speed, so it’s possible they may get tangled.

“If they do, she’s in a perfect position to take advantage.”

Elson’s greyhound has won twice and placed five times in eight previous starts with the green rug.

She has won at various distances but excels at the 600m, having won four times and placed four times on her last eight attempts over this distance.

“She’s still capable of good races over the 700 metres, but I’d say the 600 metres is her best,” Elson said.

“She’s getting better and better with age and I think she still has another 12 months of racing left in her yet.

“I think she’s a decent chance here.”

In other action, eye-catching Can Of Sprite (box five) aims for third consecutive victory in the night’s opening race.

He scored a battling 30.23 win at Albion Park on his last start from this same draw and can repeat that display.

Sawadee (box two) is a recent Wentworth Park winner and can win a high-quality race six (520m).

Peter Simpson’s ran solidly while finishing second over the 520m last start on his first run in two months and looks to be returning to top form.

Impressive newcomer Doogal (box seven) has won three of his last four starts and looks the pick in race 10 (520m).
