Eaton Eyeing A Grand Night At Gosford

Some of NSW’s leading sprinters will have their final hit outs at Gosford on Tuesday night as they prepare for the heats of the Group 2 Woy Woy Poultry Gosford Gold Cup.

Races seven and eight at the Central Coast track are both full of greyhounds who will no doubt be nominated for the cup heats which will take place on Sunday evening.

Among those is the Jeff Eaton-trained La Grand Logie, who has been one of NSW’s standout sprinters in 2015.

La Grand Logie scored a dominant win in a heat of the Group 3 Christmas Gift before being scratched in the final a week later due to a minor toe injury.

Tuesday is his first start since that injury, but Eaton says his greyhound will be fully fit for the assignment.

“He’s as good as can be expected,” the trainer said.

“I think he will lead them from this box but the big concern is that he’s not had as much work recently as the others. This is such a tough race but I hope he can hold them out.”

La Grand Logie will jump from box three in race seven – a free for all event – and will be up against a top field that includes multiple group winner Uno Suzie, Smart Missile, Let It Develop and Good Odds Ocker.

While not downplaying the challenge ahead of La Grand Logie, Eaton is confident of a bold showing.

“Most of the others haven’t seen Gosford competitively, whereas La Grand Logie loves it here,” Eaton said.

“With the two being scratched he will also have more room, which will help. If he jumps like he can he can hold them off.”

Race eight meanwhile – a 4th/5th Grade event – is dominated by Anthony Azzopardi runners, with the in-form trainer fielding four of the eight runners, including Magic Earner and Asa Killa Queen.

In other racing action, Anita May aims for a fourth consecutive victory when she jumps from box three in the one of the Gosford-Wenty heats (race three, 515m).

Anita May has won once and placed four times in six previous runs over the 515m at Gosford. She has also won twice and placed three times in six previous starts with the white rug.

Ron Bell has a decent chance of scoring at least two winners at the meeting with Hosseini in race 11.
