Seven has never been too lucky for Dyna Double One but he looks primed to change that statistic in the Group 1 Ubet Hobart Thousand (461m) on Thursday night.
The Andrea Dailly-trained greyhound jumps from box Seven in the $75,000-to-the-winner final aiming for a third Group 1 title in under a month.
Dyna Double One is the $2.30 favourite with Sportsbet but with only one win and five minor placings from Seven previous starts with the black rug, he faces a tough task in the final.
The son of Barcia Bale and Crystin Bale recovered from a moderate start last week to score an ultimately commanding 25.94 heat win.
If he is successful in the Hobart Thousand it would make it four Group titles for the Victorian, including his victories last month in the Group 1 Melbourne Cup and Group 1 Sky Racing Cup.
Standing in his way though is a top field of sprinters including Bearville Azza (box three, $4) and the 2014 Hobart Thousand winner Above All (box Seven, $6.50), who are both trained by Robbie Britton.
Above All has endured an injury-hampered 12 months since his brilliant win in last year’s decider but seems to be hitting top form again, having won his heat in 26.03.
He has never started from box Seven but with his blistering early pace and an unbeaten record in three starts at Hobart he looks the biggest threat to Dyna Double One.
Both Bearville Azza and the Brett Brave-trained Unlawful Entry (box two, $2.80) also have realistic chances, having both won their heats last week.
Unlawful Entry has won both his previous starts from box two and with a formidable record from the inside he looks a huge threat.
Tecoma Emily (box one, $26) ran a strong 25.93 at Hobart in mid-October and with the red rug looks a tempting each-way chance.
