Azzopardi Asa Great Chance Of More Success

By Jeff Collerson

Premiership pacemaker Anthony Azzopardi should wrap up the 2015 trainers' title at Wentworth Park tonight where he has 11 starters on the 11-race card.

Azzopardi, who has landed three trebles and a quadrella in recent weeks, has multiple starters in some races but could win as many as six events.

His runners are Asa Killa Queen (race one), Brilliant Shot (race four), Asa Unbreakable (race five), Asa Hard Knox, Asa Flying Spur, Myrniong Star and Spookie's Gift (race seven), Let It Develop, Uno Suzie and Jack Kade (race eight) and Asa Carrera (race 11).

"I rate Asa Killa Queen and Asa Carrera as my best chances,'' Azzopardi said.

"Asa Killa Queen had only trialled okay at Wentworth Park before improving sharply to win at his first race there last Saturday night. He has good early speed and I think there is more improvement in him.

"Asa Carrera is a very smart short course greyhound and box eight over the Wenty 280 metres will suit her perfectly.

"Brilliant Shot will win races at Wentworth Park but he is not suited in box seven.

"Asa Hard Knox is in a hot field but is a chance because his kennelmate Asa Flying Spur, drawn outside him, will give him room to move.''

Trainer Kim Mulrine is tipped to land a winning double with Sugar">Sugar Hit Johnny (box one, race two) and No Holding Back (box three, race three).

"Sugar Hit Johnny is a 29.60 dog at Dapto so is the quicker of my pair and he is desperate for a rails box,'' Mulrine said.  "He has been runner-up in each of his two Wentworth Park starts so should only get better at that track.

"No Holding Back posted a fast first split of 5.38 when she trialled 30.20 at Wenty before leading and finishing third at her first race there last Wednesday.

"For some reason she got off the track and let the winner rail up underneath her but she should also be improved and box three looks good as she is usually a fast beginner.''

Frank Sidrak, whose wonderful greyhound Iona Seven won the 2014 Group 1 Paws Of Thunder, returns to Wentworth Park with three runners, including Iona Muffin Top (box five, race five).

Iona Muffin Top won six of 32 starts for Victorian trainers Lisa and Mark Delbridge and has now returned to the kennels of Sidrak, her owner, at Catherine Field.

"I trialled Iona Muffin Top at Wenty last Tuesday and he clocked only 25.09 in a post to post trial, but I'm told the track was very slow,'' Sidrak said. "I was encouraged by his good run home time of 11.80 but that is typical of this dog - he has no early speed.

"On Wednesday night he will probably jump with them and then drop back but if the leaders fan out at the first turn he has a chance.

"If Iona Muffin Top is fourth down the back straight his rivals will know he is there because he does his best work late.''

Iona Muffin Top is a half brother to the Sidrak-owned Iona Seven, who won the Paws Of Thunder for Melbourne trainer Robbie Britton.

Good value on Wednesday is Lochinvar Amour, who has box five in race six.

She was disputing the first turn lead when she speared off from box one and collided at Wentworth Park last Wednesday so is better positioned drawn out in the middle of the track.

Lochinvar Amour possesses good early pace and has moderate beginners drawn either side of her in boxes four and six.
