Mitcharlie Mia Looking Good For Gosford

By Stuart Turner

In-form Northern Rivers greyhound Mitcharlie Mia travels to Gosford on Tuesday with her connections hopeful she can continue her recent good form.

Mitcharlie Mia has been burning up her local Northern Rivers tracks in recent weeks with six victories in her last eight starts, and look to extend that record when she jumps from box five in the Express Lube West Gosford Stakes (race seven, 515m).

This is a long trip for owner-trainer Mitch Northfield, who is based just outside Casino in the NSW Northern Rivers, but he thinks it should be worthwhile journey.

Mitcharlie Mia put in arguably the best run of her career last start with a 29.96 win at Lismore.

“I couldn’t believe it when I saw her time last week,” he said. “It was a stunning run.

“She’s only been over the 500m metres once but she showed has no problems with this distance.

“It’s a long trip for us but on current form I have to be optimistic.”

Mitcharlie Mia has scored wins at Grafton, Casino and Lismore in recent weeks, including that eight-and-a-quarter length triumph at Lismore last week.

She has also travelled well, finishing second at both Maitland and Wentworth Park last month behind Chevy Prince.

She has won twice and placed three times in six previous starts wearing the yellow rug and with several of the strong field here struggling for best form, she looks capable of winning again.

After she won her maiden I was aiming Mitcharlie Mia for the Casino Cup,” Northfield said. “Unfortunately she got injured so it didn’t happen.

“I rested her for two months After that and since then she’s been flying.

“She’s only had four bad runs in her career and she generally comes out good, which always gives her a chance wherever she’s drawn.

“Hopefully this can be a good preparation for the Gosford Cup.”

Meanwhile, Magic Darkness (box one) returns from a month off racing in race 10 (400m).

The son of Magic Sprite and Heavenly Doll has won both his previous starts from the inside alley and is expected to run well fresh in this event.
