Hurricane George Looking To Storm Bulli

By Stuart Turner

Hurricane-george">Hurricane-george">Hurricane">Hurricane George scored a storming surprise victory on his last start and trainer Jason Matthews believes his greyhound can repeat that triumph at tonight’s Bulli meeting.

The in-form son of Hurricane Luke and Starshot aims for a second consecutive victory jumping from box seven in the Bulli Dogs On Facebook Stakes (race nine, 400m).

Hurricane-george">Hurricane George started last week’s $5000-to-the-winner Goulburn Mulwaree Council Sprint Final (350m) as a $33.50 outsider but produced a sizzling 19.64 run to take the title.

He has not won in three previous starts from box seven but with three wins and four minor placings from his last 10 starts he is becoming solid performer.

“I think he has grown into racing,” Matthews said. “He is learning what it’s all about and how to win.

“I would rather see him drawn on the outside as he has done well from box eight and he usually comes out well and runs straight.

“In current form he should perform well against these and I think he can go well here.”

Last week’s win took Hurricane George’s career record to a solid six wins and 10 minor placings from 24 starts.

He finished fifth on his last start over the 400m at Bulli but has produced some decent displays over the distance at the track.

Hurricane George scored a 22.79 win at Bulli in August and has also placed three times over the 400m at the Illawarra track as well.

He is one of the kennel stars for local trainer Matthews, a former housepainter turned full-time trainer.

In other Bulli Friday action, newcomer Sweetwater Boy (box two) looks the pick in race three (400m).

A hot prospect from the gun Mark Wilcox kennel, Sweetwater Boy was an excellent 25.04 winner at Maitland on his last start and three of his four career victories so far have come over the 400m at Bulli.

Class performer Dokmai looks ideally drawn in box one to take out race four (472m).

Judith Fisher’s greyhound unluckily fell in last week’s Group 2 Dapto Puppy Auction Classic final after scoring five consecutive victories, including her last at Dapto two weeks ago.

She has won three times and placed once on her four previous starts wearing the red rug.

Sonador Gold (box two) has been a consistent performer so far for trainer Andrew Rowe and can take out race six (472m).

He has finished second four times over this distance at Bulli but from this draw is capable of going one better tonight.
