Dyna Double One In Top Condition For Hobart

By Stuart Turner

Dyna Double One’s packed schedule seems unlikely to stop him scoring yet another victory in a heat of the Group 1 Ubet Hobart Thousand (461m) on Thursday night.

The Andrea Dailly-trained star Victorian starts his bid for a third Group 1 title in under a month jumping from box four in the last of six  heats of final Group 1 series for the year.

Fresh from defeating star kennelmate Fernando Bale in last month’s thrilling Group 1 Melbourne Cup, Dyna Double One went to Brisbane and took out last Thursday’s Group 1 Brisbane Cup.

The Andrea Dailly-trained greyhound has drawn unfavourably in his heat in box four but the son of Barcia Bale and Crystin Bale looks head and shoulders above his opposition in this race.

“We had no concerns with the travelling as he is a very robust greyhound and seems to take everything in his stride,” kennel spokesman George Dailly said.

“This is not his favourite distance  but if he gets a clear run he should be fine. It’s a big, roomy track at Hobart and the lure is bit quieter, which should make things interesting, but I’m sure he can cope.

“Dyna Double One is such a strong greyhound who tries hard every time he goes out. Even with the tough draw I’m sure he can win again.”

Dailly confirmed that Fernando Bale will be rested until his likely final outing at January’s Paws Of Thunder, but Dyna Double One would likely continue racing for a while yet.

“We’ll play it by ear, but there’s not been any talk of retiring him,” he said.

“So as long as he remains healthy and competitive, then I could see him racing for a while yet.”

Last Friday night’s Group 2 Energis Ballarat Cup winner Shared Equity (box seven) aims for another Group title in the first heat.

Angela Langton’s greyhound has never run at Hobart but has an imposing record in 450m races and has won three of her five starts from box seven.

Last year’s Hobart Thousand winner Above All has box three in the third heat, but has his work cut out to repeat his terrific 2014 triumph.

Robbie Britton’s greyhound has endured an injury hampered 12 months since that win and has not won since July, although he trialled well at Hobart last week.

Hot local Prescribe (box seven), from the gun Ted Medhurst kennel, could instead be the better bet in this heat.

The veteran greyhound has won four of his last six starts, including a strong 25.99 triumph from box six at Hobart in October.

Over Limit has hit terrific form in recent weeks and the Victorian looks a strong chance in heat five.

Glenn Rounds’ greyhound (box four) has won once and placed twice in three races since returning from a long break and looks hard to stop on Thursday night.

In-form duo I’ve Got You (box eight, heat two) and  Fantastic Spiral (box eight, heat four) also both look decent chances to qualify for next Thursday’s final.

The six heat winners, plus the two fastest losers, qualify for next Thursday’s final.
