On 8 August 2015, Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) advised that it had received confirmation of the presence of the prohibited substance heptaminol in a sample taken from the greyhound Gold Steel.
GRNSW also advised that Gold Steel's trainer Patrick Maloney had been given the opportunity to enter a plea of guilty to a charge of presenting a greyhound other than free of a prohibited substance in breach of the GRNSW Greyhound Racing Rules.
Mr Maloney has informed GRNSW that he has decided to enter a plea of guilty to the charge. Mr Maloney has also informed GRNSW that he has decided to accept the penalty that had been proposed by the Stewards.
As a result, the Stewards have found Mr Maloney guilty of a charge of presenting the Greyhound other than free of a prohibited substance. The Stewards have determined that the following penalty should be imposed:
• 20 week disqualification of his license.
A copy of the decision of GRNSW about the penalty imposed can be found Maloney.pdf">here.
Despite entering a plea of guilty and accepting the penalty proposed by the Stewards, Mr Maloney has been notified of his rights of appeal.
